The current activity that everyone loves to do outside, whether they’re at Wee or Wee Wee, is bug hunting!

They grab a bug container and go exploring, looking under rocks and through the garden. Today our friends found a handful of roly poly’s and proudly showed them off to each other.

One of the big kids found a slug and our friends were fascinated! They watched it climb up and over the fence and around Jackson’s hand when he held it up for everyone to get a close up look.

Good Afternoon!

CLOSING Reminder: Wee Friends will be closed Monday, May 29th for Memorial Day. Also, here’s the first reminder for our summer break closing: Wee Friends will be closed Thursday, June 29th through Friday, July 7th. We will reopen Monday, July 10th. Thank you!

This morning, we welcomed Miss Kaylee from IUSB. She’s going to be our student teacher for the next four weeks. Many of our friends took her around the environment, laying the land for her. We’re so anxious to get to know her!

The welcome activity aligned with our FAB for the upcoming week:

Social Studies: K.4.1 Explain that people work to earn money to buy the things they want. Introduce money names and values.

Throughout the week, we’re going to be focusing on money and what it’s used for. In today’s world, MOST (not all) people use plastic to pay for things they want/need. Children will be able to explore real money this week and understand why we need money to buy things.

It’s that time of year! Miss Melinda showed our group how to correctly use the gardening tools as well as how NOT to use them. We learned that the tools are sharp and could hurt us so we had to use them safely and with our peers in mind.

DSCN0144DSCN0147

Using shovels, rakes, and a variety of other tools, we started turning the soil and de-weeding the garden to get it in tip top shape before we plant later this week/next week.

Good Afternoon!

The older farm group took off in the wee-hicle this morning but first, we had a chore to do. We stopped at the post office to pick up turkey chicks for Miss Charlotte! As we walked into the post office, we talked about what employees at the post office do. “I’ve been there before! They bring my mom and dad the mail.”

During our drive to the farm, we listened to the chicks make beautiful music. They chirped the whole way there and by the end, friends were wondering if they were going to settle down Smile.

We successfully brought the chicks to Miss Charlotte. Quickly, we transferred the chicks under a light so they could warm up. Charlotte told us how the chicks learn to eat as we helped her put milk and water into the cage.

The chicks kept our interest for a little while before someone asked, “Can we clean up the barn like we did last time?”

Miss Charlotte told us that we’re always welcome to help!

P5110160P5110165

Before wandering around the farm, we got out a quick burst of energy as we ran to the shed and back. Lulu took it upon herself to run to the shed and back three times!

P5110186P5110188

We went into the gated area to see the goats and sheep. The goats enjoyed our company so much, they maneuvered out of the gate and followed us to see the cows!

P5110200P5110212

There are so many young babies around the farm. We were lucky enough to go see the cows. There was one baby boy cow that was just born. Friends stood quietly and still and suddenly, the cows started to make their way towards us! It was extremely interesting to be that close to cows; touching them and petting them. Miss Charlotte explained how they get milk from the cows; a friend shared, “I drink cows milk at home!”

We also went into the closed barn to visit with four day old baby goats. They were very fragile so we used our most gentle touches when we petted them.

P5110255P5110259

After visiting with the cows, Miss Charlotte took our friends hands and formed a circle. We practiced our deep breathing, taking in what we had just saw. Life moves too quickly sometimes and it’s so important to live in the moment instead of wondering what’s ‘next’.

“Living in the moment is being aware of the moment we are in. If our minds are in the past or future, we are not truly alive in the present.”

Meanwhile, back at Wee Friends, children explored the felt board this morning. The art table was open for play dough. Sensory experiences are always a popular activity as it allows to use our hands in a positive way.

We had a great morning outside!

We were excited to see a rabbit over by the garden and that started a game of hopping around like bunnies!

DSCN8567DSCN8568

Later, one of the big kids caught a worm and our friends were eager to see it.

DSCN8607DSCN8609

This led to a bug hunt in the garden. Friends would pretend to find a bug and say, “It’s a worm! Ew, yucky!”

DSCN8615DSCN8611

Breakfast was Whole Grain Cheerios and oranges. Lunch consisted of sweet pea butter sandwiches, blueberries, strawberries, and corn. Afternoon snack was wheat crackers with cream cheese and watermelon.

Hello!

In large group, we came up with a list of six jobs and the tools needed for these jobs. One by one, we talked about each job. Someone asked, “What’s a lawyer?” Jackson was quick to respond, “I know all about lawyer’s. I’ll tell you.”

We’ll talk about how these jobs in the community help us as citizens later on in the week.

Social Studies: K.4.2 Identify and describe different kinds of jobs that people do and the tools they use.

It was another great swim session at the Y! The advanced group jumped off of the diving blocks and grabbed a noodle that was close by. The beginning group used bubbles and noodles to swim around the pool. They also worked on their flutter kick and using their arms to keep themselves above water.

P5090139P5090141

While friends were at swim, Miss Melinda gathered a group around the art table to plant a few more starter plants as well as repotting a spider plant. Friends were quite interested in the roots that were present on the spider plant!
