Breakfast was whole wheat toast with butter and cinnamon and oranges. Wee sprout was peas. Lunch consisted of whole wheat pasta with chicken, oranges, and peas. Afternoon snack was organic whole milk yogurt and cheese.

FARM ANNOUNCEMENT: Group B will go to the farm next Thursday, May 18th. Our rain makeup day will be Friday, May 19th. GROUP B (children aged 3 by 4/1/2017) includes Lucy, Tate, Maxwell, Rosemary, Grady, and Anna.
**For the safety and enjoyment of this farm trip, any child that did not make the group B birthday deadline is welcome to be transported and chaperoned by a parent, grandparent, or other trusted family member. Thank you for understanding that we make these farm decisions thoughtfully and with the personalities and developmental levels of our group in mind.

**We had a family donate four ‘Fairy Tales & Folklore’ tickets. It’s next Saturday, May 13 at 3:30 at the St. Joseph County Main Public Library. First come first serve so if you’re family wants them, see a teacher at pick up please 
.
In large group, we read The Magic Hat. As we got further into the story, we noticed that some of the words rhymed.
Afterwards, we came up with a web full of jobs. Friends used their background knowledge to fill up the chalkboard. Most of the jobs that we came up with were jobs of our mommy’s and daddy’s. A few friends started sharing what they wanted to be when they grow up which spread and soon, everyone had shared!
Throughout the week, we will gain more knowledge of jobs and careers as well as the tools that people use for those jobs.
Social Studies: K.4.2 Identify and describe different kinds of jobs that people do and the tools they use.
Children explored new magnatiles that Miss Tami bought over the weekend. They are different shapes which allows children to use them in a different way. We always get excited about integrating new toys into the environment.

Happy Friday!
We want to wish a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to one of our friends who turned three today!
Anna brought in a venus fly trap for our classroom! We gathered in the reading area to talk about what exactly a venus fly trap is.
We found out that it’s a carnivorous plant; meaning that it eats only meat (aka bugs). Tate shouted, “Just like the T-Rex; T-Rex only eats meat!” Throughout the morning, friends looked for various bugs that they could feed the venus fly trap!
The art table was transformed to our planting table. We started by putting the soil into the peat pots. Afterwards, we took pencils to make a hole in the middle of the pots. Friends put various seeds into the pots including corn, squash, cucumber, peas, and green beans. We’re anxious to start our garden soon!

PM snack– A birthday treat for one of our friends: vegan chocolate mousse with a strawberry/mango topping and a white chocolate piece and string cheese

Our friends were in the kitchen this morning making dot paint masterpieces! Friends enjoyed using their dot paints in different ways. They tried stamping as fast as they could, carefully layered one dot over another, used two dot paints at once, and one friend took the time to cover his entire paper one dot at a time.
They proudly shared their artwork when it was done. Franklin told everyone he painted a dinosaur, and one of Emma’s pieces was a pig!
Breakfast was Whole Grain Cheerios and banana. Lunch consisted of English muffins with hummus, mixed veggies, and banana. Afternoon snack was cheese crackers and string cheese.

Good Afternoon!
Even though it didn’t stop raining all day long, we were occupied and engaged throughout the morning.
Many children noticed that one of our fish lost it’s eye. We were quite concerned about it and friends started guessing as to how the fish lost it’s eye. So, we headed to the chalk board to write down our thoughts. Our list was quite extensive as we had various thoughts about this topic! Our empathy was pouring out to our fishy friend.
As we talked about the fish losing it’s eye, Jackson proposed a question: “Will another eye grow in?”
To this question, we started referring to humans. Lulu commented, “When someone loses an arm, they can get a new one!” This lead us to talk about limbs being replaced but a new one doesn’t grow in to take it’s place. Jackson just lost a baby tooth the other day. He said that teeth do grow in when you lose one! The conversation went in various directions 
.
Lulu, Maddie, Addi, Lucy, and Anna sat at the art table. They all used circle and square stencils but created completely different art. Friends examined their creations, noting the differences between each piece. “They don’t look alike but they’re both beautiful!”
I’ve attached the following article that goes into detail about two different types of art: process and product. Here are Wee Friends, we strive to provide process experiences, allowing children to create what they want and not go off of a model. No two children are the same so why would we want them to have identical pieces of artwork?

We opened up the art easel for children to engage in a process art experience. Almost every friend painted multiple creations. When we open an activity such as the art easel, friends are encouraged to participate but it is not required.

Good Afternoon!
Today’s sign in focused on speed using a variable such as a marble. A few friends thought that the ramp that was closer to the ground would allow the marble to travel the fastest. So, we did our own research today.
Jackson and a few friends experimented with a ramp this morning in various places throughout the house.
We made two ramps that were the exact same length. Jackson held a ramp closer to the ground while Addi held a ramp at more of an incline. At the count of three, they each let go of their marble at the same time. We realized that the marble hit the ground first using the steeper inclined ramp.
Jackson and Addi experimented with every incline possible. We also timed how long it took for the marble to hit the ground at differing inclines.
Science: K.3.2 Investigate that things move in different ways, such as fast, slow, etc.
Afterwards, Lucy got a group together to play ‘teacher’! She sat down on the bench and had arranged stools for her students. Taking turns, children got to write on the chalkboard. Jackson and Addi helped their younger friends write their name.

While the swim group was at the Y, Lucy requested the slime. The children enjoyed manipulating it with their hands.
Through out our day we could be found working on puzzles, drawing at the art table, listening to stories and playing with the cars and trucks.
Breakfast: Corn Chex and pears.
Lunch: Refried black beans and cheese on whole wheat flatbread/tortillas, apples and corn.
Afternoon Snack: Whole wheat bagels with hummus.
Wee Sprouts: Peppers.
