Our friends wrote in their journals today with markers and crayons. It was a great activity to talk about colors. By putting the markers back in their caps, the kids were practicing hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

When snow falls outside, you can bet the Wee Frienders will spot it!

The approaching holiday season is often a time for increased gratitude and joy. We see this festive joy in our Wee Friends throughout the year, but it is amplified the closer the holidays come. Here are a few of the many joyful moments we experienced today.

We delighted in reading non-fiction books with our friends! This picture was taken right before we read a book about ducklings:

Sharing a funny book like Another Brother with a teacher is always special:

Friends enjoyed twirling and swirling ribbons to Christmas music, while our little tree continued to inspire reflection:

It was Ali’s, our student helper’s, last day today. She got lots of hugs and snuggles before leaving. The kids, Miss Marty, and Miss Amanda will miss her and we all hope she comes back to visit!

Rosemary and Anna had fun with the climber in the gross motor section. One would climb on the top while the other crawled through the tunnel. Then they would switch!

Good Afternoon and Happy First Day of December!

When friends walk in the door every morning, they have many options. The first one is obvious: breakfast! Once breakfast is done however, children can head to the table where most mornings, there’s an activity to help friends start their day. Today, we were able to customize snowmen!

001002

It was a morning where kids were involved in different activities whether by themselves or with a friend. Magnatiles have been a top priority lately. Not only are friends building with magnatiles, but they’re bringing other toys into their play such as cars or animals.

018020024

We saw a great display of teamwork today when one of our friends was carrying a box full of math manipulatives and it spilled! Not only did he get on the floor and start picking the pieces up right away but so did many other friends!

021022

For Kindergarten this morning, children gathered at the circle table where the goal was to pair an object with the first sound of that word. For example, pairing ‘M’ with ‘Monkey’. A few friends joined Elliott and Elizabeth which created an awesome learning experience.

WF Monday 11/30

Welcome back! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. Since Thanksgiving is now over, we got out our Christmas decorations! Friends had a blast decorating our little tree.

034032

The short tree was a perfect height for friends to have total control over decorating. There was lots of discussion about the placement of the ornaments and garland!

We were also so excited to get some outside time:

Large Group: Today in large group we began working on one of this week’s FABs, K.3.2: Identify maps and globes as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe. Using a world map and a blow-up globe, we had a conversation about the differences and similarities between the two. We noticed how land and water were represented with different colors!

Daniel took in this information and then applied it during our journal time. He created his very own land (purple) and oceans (blue)!

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Toasted whole wheat bread with butter and fresh pears. Lunch: Whole wheat pasta with chicken, mixed vegetables, and fresh oranges/blackberries. Snack: Organic whole milk yogurt with fresh pears.

WF 11/25 Pajama Day!

What a marvelous Pajama Day we’ve had today. We started off with some special nail painting!

008021

At the WF nail salon there were plenty of colors and sparkles to choose from. Friends often chose a different color for each fingernail.

012026025014029032

After their nails were beautified, friends created a stage and backstage area to prepare for a fashion show. There was much discussion about how and where to place the curtain.

035

Once the audience was in place, friends took turns showcasing their pajamas (and matching dolls) as well as their freshly manicured nails!

057063061069065

Later, we gathered in the reading area for a story. Daniel brought in The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and it was a great jumpstart to a conversation about Thanksgiving.

073

Wee Sprouts: Cucumber. Breakfast: Whole grain oatmeal, homemade banana muffins and bananas. Lunch: Farm fresh scrambled eggs wrapped in whole wheat flatbread, green beans and grapes. Snack: Homemade popcorn with butter and fresh pears and bananas.
