Also, this morning our student teacher, Miss Krystle brought in a handcrafted washer and dryer to build upon the emergent laundry interest of last Friday.  The kids truly enjoyed exploring laundry concepts further in our dramatic play area.  Thanks Krystle!!!

Happy Friday!

Since we had FANTASTIC weather this morning, Saskia, Naia, and Lulu asked for ‘wagon’! There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. They heard dogs, saw squirrels, and talked with one another along the way.

When we were almost back to WWF, we saw a giant bush of flowers. We thought they were beautiful!

The outside fun continued as we headed to the backyard where we drew with chalk on the ground among other things Smile.

Taters decided to catch a little break from the sun while Maya enjoyed gently pouring sand over her legs.

Have a terrific weekend! We want to wish all of our Dads a very “Happy Fathers Day”! You rock!

WF Friday 6/13

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Whole wheat toast and bananas. Lunch: Whole grain rice with red beans, orange slices and celery.  Snack: Rice cakes and cream cheese.

We had some clothes that needed washing this morning. After Marta, Elliott and Finn finished constructing their Magna-Tile Doughnut Shop  (a multi dimensional and geometrical Wonder Work) we decided to take an impromptu field trip to the basement. To do a load of laundry. Friends really appreciated knowing what was below. We listened to feet stomping above us and tried to guess where the sound was coming from. Melinda came down and pointed out where the Potty Pipes hang. She went upstairs, flushed the toilet and we listened to the rush of water below. We measured detergent and loaded clothes in the washer. Each friend went on a hunt for one treasure to bring upstairs. Then we headed out to enjoy this amazing day.

Have a wonderful weekend. – Laurie

Hello!

Our day was full of stories. Friends read stories by themselves, with friends, and teachers. We’re so fascinated by language that we enjoy the same books over and over (aka ‘wheels on the bus’). Of course we do go through our collection of books. We LOVE snuggling and listening to a variety of books.

A couple of our friends have been looking at the pictures and taking what they remember from previously reading the story and telling their own version of it. One that we’ve been using for this lately is ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear’. Friends love retelling this story.

Some of our non verbal children are pointing at pictures and bouncing or laughing when they’re getting excited while reading a story. Even though they can’t string words together yet, we still know when they get excited!

For breakfast, children had kix and blueberries. Lunch consisted of homemade cheese pizza with whole grain crust, pears, and green peppers/cucumbers. PM snack was cheddar cheese slices and banana.

Have a great night.

We added props to our LET IT GO musical exploration: a pillowed, paper ice pond, a basket snowman and a Kimono. We counted to 4 over and over as one song played, matching the tempo. We tapped the tempo on our skin so friends could get the beat INSIDE their bodies.

016

We have a surprise art project in the works. It includes popsicle sticks, nuts and bolts.

And the velocity of Wee learning continued today.

It included a long orange ramp and cars.

Wee Sprouts: Radishes. Breakfast: Cereal and blueberries. Lunch: Whole wheat pasta with marinara and cheese, pear slices and cucumbers. All PPC! Snack: Cheddar cheese and Wheat Thins.

Good Afternoon!

Friends spent their morning reading stories and cooking up a storm in the kitchen!

We are all at this age where we have the ‘mine’ aspect when it comes to play. If I had it five minutes ago, it’s mine. If I thought about that toy yesterday, it’s mine. If that’s my favorite toy, it’s mine. Children work through their play using words. When they’re upset or angry, we encourage friends to talk with one another.

However, that’s not always the case. When we have non verbal friends, actions are key. A grunt, scream, cry, or ‘upset’ face can let friends know that we are frustrated.

We always try to ‘work it out’!

We headed outside before the rain decided to set in.

IMG_1072IMG_1074

As it started to sprinkle, Nora and Saskia did their version of the rain dance!

IMG_1077IMG_1078IMG_1092

The sprinkles became more consistent. So, we came inside to play with the water!

IMG_1099IMG_1103IMG_1105

For breakfast, children had english muffins with butter and cinnamon along with fresh purple porch strawberries. We finished up the strawberries for a quick AM snack. Lunch consisted of hummus on tortillas, fresh salad with yogurt ranch dressing, and banana/raspberries. PM snack was string cheese and raisins.

Have a terrific evening!

WF Tuesday 6/10 Speed vs. Velocity

If SPEED is the rate of motion and VELOCITY the rate of motion with direction, I think we can best describe our Wee morning as one that moved with speed. As friends discovered their work, directions shifted.

001

  • Which marble gets to the bottom faster?
  • Should I use screws or nails for my car wheels?
  • How do I stick my pirate’s goatee on?
  • What is your dad’s favorite color?
  • Who wants a poison shower or bath?
  • What are YOU imagining as you work with water and popsicle molds?
  • Where can I put this cylinder so that it will stand? Which end?
  • Let’s write a new song!

040

The velocity at which learning occurs in our Wee World is breathtaking! HOLD ON! We move real fast. We’re going to make this morning last. We’re kicking around the cobblestones.  Just looking for fun, and we’re feeling groovy. Peace

Hope you are too. –Laurie
