WF 2/21 Friday “Mirror, mirror, what do you see?”

006

After Lisa read Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, we invited friends to come to the table to look in a mirror, and a less clear piece of aluminum foil. “What do YOU see?” was the question we asked.

015

“He scared me.”   —    “No I didn’t.”

“She hurt my feelings.”   — “She grabbed this out of my hand and I had it first.”

It sure makes sense to look in a mirror and describe what we see. We talked a bit today about the other ways we SEE things DIFFERENTLY. And what we can say when one friend sees it one way, and we see it another way. Friday’s Big Thluths.

Happy Birthday Zoi! Today, Zoi turns three!

Rain. Hmmm. Well it gave friends lots to explore today. Among the many Wee learning moments was an exploration that started with rainy books. Lisa message boarded which animals DON’T like the rain. We created rain sounds with instruments and, after Elliott suggested that ants don’t like rain, we marched, ducked, counted, played our instruments and belted out “The Ants Go Marching”.

055

A few older friends spent their morning assembling Unifix Cubes. “It’s as long as the earth!”, “I’m going to count to one hundred thousand.” and “It’s very huge!” were among the observations friends shared as they created.

033

Stay dry.

The Wee Wee book train came rollin’ through! Friends enjoyed reading stories with teachers and each other this morning.

A request was made for some music. Between the xylophones, pianos, and drums, it was rocking in here!

We were all cheesing as we went down the slide! Lulu and Eren raced down the slide with their arms up in the air.

With the assistance of her friends, Maya made it all the way up the habitrail for the first time. Just by her smile, you could tell she was a bit happy Smile.

2/19 Wednesday Finding the Thluth

We talk a lot about the Big Thluths at Wee Friends: The earth is round;  The moon comes out at night and the sun, during the day. We also cover the everyday, personal thluths: mommy and daddy love you; you are an older sister, not a younger sister. When we heard one friend yell: “You’re not telling the thluth!”, we talked a bit more about this idea.

We’ve also been spending time with newspapers. Today, Lisa led a large group exploration in which friends combed their own newspaper for shapes, letters and numbers.

019

Our older friends continued working on creating their own newspapers.

041

Some Wees got ooey gooey with shaving cream.

011

We ended our morning outside, on top of the world, with all the sun and snow.

052053055

We found today’s Big Thluth: The sun is shining and melting the snow. And, like every Wee day, we found personal thluths: “I know how to write it!” “I used nice words!”, “I solved my problem!”, “I can climb up there!” , “I feel angry.” and “I like to give hugs.”

009

Enjoy the beautiful sun and melting snow.

Good Afternoon!

First, we want to say congratulations to Nora and her family on the arrival of her sister, Adalaide. We’re so happy for you all!

With a little later start than usual, friends came in for breakfast! After we had some toast and oranges, we read books and spent time working with cars and train tracks.

WF 2/18 The Birthday Princess Ball

Happy Birthday Lisa!

056

It was a Birthday Princess Ball that topped the charts. Make up, hair hugs, magic wands and magic wishes. On this, Lisa’s Big 50, she made a bippity boppity boo wish for each Wee Friend. Our wish for Lisa is that this year is filled with as much joy and generosity as she has given all of us.

Enjoy the photos.

WF 2/17

001

We started the day with Math FAB K.3.2: Identify and make simple patterns with letters and shapes.

In our literacy rich environment, a couple friends sang the ABC song and then finished with a leap off the bench.

010

We dove into Literacy FAB K.2.4: Identify types of everyday print materials. We honed in on newspapers. Melinda receives the SB Tribune each morning. Friends asked her questions about how it gets to her doorstep AND why she likes the newspaper.

037

Magna Tile math work created a social circle in which friends not only created works, but carefully practiced the art of negotiation and sharing of materials.

035

We measured our bulbs and integrated a quick lesson on “grabbing” and “touching”.

038

Our older preschoolers listened to The Paper Boy by Dav Pilkey. We had a great discussion about paper deliveries and production. With our new stash of newsprint (thanks, Tami!,) we set out to create our own newspaper.

049

And now we are resting. Funny how sometimes Mondays are the days that wear us out the most!

042

Happy, restful, Monday. Tomorrow we celebrate Lisa’s birthday. She told us it’s her 29th but we have reason to believe it’s her big 5-0! (she didn’t mind me sharing).

Laurie

Wee Sprouts: Carrots. Breakfast: Puffins cereal and pears. Lunch: Melted cheddar on turkey and whole wheat toast, peas and applesauce. Snack: Pretzels and cheese sticks.
