WF 2/28 Friday and Markers

045

Markers, in our Early Childhood learning environment,  are sort of like rolls of toilet paper in a home environment: they are necessary for creating (uuhummm) art, and we go through them really fast.

So what to do with the problem of markers that dry out in a week’s time? Tami solved it yesterday.

008

We will collect “yucky markers” and re-purpose them by creating watercolor. We began the exploration today, scientifically, with a discussion on how the markers create the colored watercolor. We then invited friends to create art with this homemade art material.  And so we offer you a glimpse at the Power of Repurposing. And the continued Wee Joy, in learning and creating.

027

What have YOU repurposed lately?

Happy weekend.

Laurie

Hello!

The habitrail was quite popular today. Not only is it a great place for us to get active but it provides a wonderful social aspect into our play. Our older friends help our babies which allows for relationship building to occur! The older Wee Wee’s are so infatuated with our babes!

While Lucy tried to climb up the slide this afternoon, her friends Nora and Saskia participated in gross motor activity to the extreme. They walked up the stairs, ran to the slide and slid down the slide. They did this over and over while Nora shouted, “Go Nora!” Self encouragement is always a great thing to see Smile.

IMG_5488IMG_5495

A ravishing game of ‘peek-a-boo’ occurred between Saskia and Lucy. We all had a few good laughs Smile.

For breakfast, children had toast with cinnamon and banana. Lunch consisted of soy butter on tortillas, corn, and fresh strawberries. PM snack was rice cakes with soy butter and raisins.

Have a lovely evening!

WF 2/26 Wednesday Squares

We started our day navigating an obstacle course. And collecting ideas about what “exercise” is.

010

Our hopscotch introduced the shape of the day: the square. Some friends counted as they hopped and other friends counted backwards and walked.

018

We explored how many equal lines make a square and placed Little People inside/outside (Math FAB K.4.3) the squares.

021

Finn, Elliott, Ellie and Max continued yesterday’s project of building a Magna Tile Fire Ship Rocket Ship so high that they had to use stools to raise it up. Laurie thought she would HELP them by getting the stools, but she ended up knocking their creation over ON ACCIDENT. Even teachers can get in the way of great learning moments. They were not pleased. But they rebuilt and created something spectacular. And they forgave her.

027033

Eve built houses.

034

Sloane and Marta played inside/outside and all around house keeping. They asked Mel if she would pretend to be the Grandma.

037038

Leo and Daniel built and rode a choo-choo. They read a book on the ride.

039

Aislinn, Clara and Owen practiced catapulting fuzz balls off a flat surface.

048

Per Literacy FAB K.7.2, Lisa invited friends to “Share information and ideas” about how to write a letter to her daughter, Monica, living in Ghana.

051

Happy Zoi led friends as they marched across the hopscotch to “The Ants Go Marching”

004

Cassie worked her fingers to the bone peeling the masking tape off yesterday’s painted shape collage.

011

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!! Max and Finn have both started reading Bob Books.

063

Enjoy your day.

Laurie

Good Afternoon!

All of our friends rolled, threw, and bounced the balls this morning. Our baby friends love the sensorial aspect of the balls. Lucy took the ball in her hand and felt the pointy spikes.

IMG_5332IMG_5330IMG_5335

Henri took two balls in his hands and banged them together!

IMG_5339IMG_5341IMG_5343

While the babies were taking their morning naps, Eren, Saskia, and Nora travelled into the kitchen where they used markers to make beautiful drawings. We talked about the colors that they were using along with what they were drawing.

WF Tuesday 2/25 Finding Our Way Back to Mommy

“Don’t cry!” said one two year old to another today. “After naptime and snack, we get our mommies back!”. There are many great moments to share today, as we make our way back to our mommies.

Cubes! We found them, we made them and we dissected them.

001

With her childhood song, “Swimming in the Swimming Hole”, Lisa prepped the swimmers with protocol and swimming strokes. “It was so much fun, I wish it wasn’t over!” expressed Aislinn after the first lesson.

010

Friends created a cube snake and cubed Magna Tile creations.

007

When the swimmers departed, a small group of friends gathered to explore/create shapes with masking tape and paint.

026

“We are playing Frozen slash Ice Age.” expressed Max.

029

Mel set out The Category Box and our wee-est Wees sorted objects into their appropriate category.

036

We set out our instruments and identified which ones had a circular shape. then friends jammed out to favorite tunes.

056

We used our rain stick to practice give and take. Give and Take. Work together. My turn, then your turn.

050

Our days fill up fast as we make our way back to mommy. Lots of learning along the way. Lots of fun along the way. And lots of anticipation. No matter how exciting a cube is, there’s nothing better than mommy. (Daddies too. Smile)

Have a great day.

Laurie

Happy Monday!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

We all enjoyed looking out the window this morning as a tow truck was hooking a car across the street. Friends thought it was quite interesting Smile.

Eren requested magnatiles this morning so a few friends followed him into the kitchen. They also got the cars out to play with.

IMG_5241IMG_5243IMG_5246

IMG_5249IMG_5260

IMG_5253IMG_5268

Henri and Eren sat and played trains this morning. Eren showed Henri how to hook the trains to each other.

IMG_5273IMG_5275

Tate and Lucy had a blast trying to crawl up the slide. They both laughed as Lucy slid back down the slide Smile.

WF 2/24 Monday

016

  • The new swimming group will be pulling out tomorrow (Tues 2/25) at 9:30am.
  • Tami has cleaned out all the cubbies and placed your Wee Friend’s artwork and other materials in a plastic baggy. Enjoy their creations and take whatever is in the baggy home! Thank you!

A large group of friends spent more time gazing at their reflections and making observations about what they saw.

Per MATH FAB K.4.1: Identify and describe common geometric shapes; we studied our pattern blocks and created circular spin art.

021

The sunshine BECKONED a small group of Wee Friends outdoors and we reveled in the icy backyard.

041
