Good Afternoon!
K/PREK1 children focused on seeing another person’s perspective during our group time. We read ‘The Tale of Two Beasts’ which focuses on two main characters. It is told from the little girl’s point of view who finds a beast in the woods and takes him home. Then the exact same story is told from the beasts’ perspective with the illustrations matching throughout the story.
After the story was finished, we talked about seeing a situation from someone else’s point of view. Maxwell said, “Yeah like when my parents carry me. They think they’re helping me but I want to walk by myself.”
As we were talking about this, Lucy said, “I can see why the beast was upset. He was happy even though the girl thought he was sad and lonely.”
PREK2 friends made predictions about which animals traveled slowest to quickest. After they made their predictions, Miss Kim told them the actual speed of each animal before placing the animals into the correct order.
Max started exploring different speeds and angles by using various cardboard tubes in the habitrail. He placed two cardboard tubes next to each other, one longer and one shorter. We used two marbles and had races to see which marble came out first. Before we let go of the marbles, we guessed which marble would come out of its tube first.
After, we constructed a cardboard track that had two different pieces. First, we used a marble which was successful! We started talking about another items we could try on the track. We came to the conclusion that the items should be round. We went on a hunt throughout the environment to find round items to test out. Children found a puff ball, a rock, and because we were so interested..a car!
All of these didn’t work because they weren’t completely round. We talked about why it wasn’t successful as a group and were able to come up with conclusions about our experiment.
