Good Afternoon!

Happy National Relaxation Day!

We took this holiday to heart!

Our quiet time centered around books: in the tent as well as the reading area. There are several occasions where children sit down with a book and simply ‘read’ to themselves. At this age, ‘reading’ can be many things. Most of the time, we see children looking at the pictures and sharing aloud what they see. While they can’t read the words quite yet, they can use the pictures as an aid to explain what’s going on.

While children read to themselves, they are identifying and perfecting different themes of literacy. For instance, turning the pages the right way. Even if they’re not reading at this stage, they are able to identify and exhibit the right way to turn the pages of the book. We talk about the ‘cover’ of a book as well as the ‘spine’.
