Happy Friday!

I read this article the other day and it really hit home this morning. Two of our kindergarteners spent most of their morning at the art table, creating drawings and chatting about it with each other and anyone who would listen.

We do not force children to come to the table, to write, or to do an art activity. Our goal is to create a love of learning. This is brought about by children feeling valued, in every sense of the word.

At journal time, children often get fascinated with one topic. For several weeks, their journal may be about the same thing—but that’s allowed. We don’t tell children what to draw or what to write. This allows children to feel connected to their work, validated in what they’re doing.

This article is a little longer but does a fantastic job at magnifying the current shift in preschools and the kindergarten expectations.
