Good Afternoon!

Our K/PREK1 had two parts: first, each friend was given a word (black marker) and they had to come up with a word that rhymed with that word (green marker). One of our FAB’s this week focuses on rhyming words which take place randomly throughout our day because rhyming is quite fun! Children are quick to point out in stories when they notice rhyming words. It’s a fun way to play with words while also strengthening understanding of rhymes.

The second part was looking back at the shapes from yesterday that we talked about. Before each child rolled up their mat before journal time, I gave one shape to identify to each group member. Friends came up to the board one at a time to identify their shape.

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

Penny had been telling us about a book she has at home that focuses on the body: specifically, what’s inside the body. Using various books as resources, we worked together to create our own body! We used materials such as cotton swabs, yarn, pipe cleaners, plastic lids, and straws to create a body replica.

Cotton swabs = bones

Yellow yarn = intestines

Cotton balls = brain

Lids = pelvis

Friends really had to use their imagination to come up with items that would represent organs that were discussed.

We hear, “Can I play with you?” several times a day. I found this Teacher Tom blog today and found it extremely interesting how he was able to change the environment (or the words used) to get a different outcome.
