Good Afternoon!
We started to get into the Halloween spirit during K group as we read the book, ‘Patty’s Pumpkin Patch’. Throughout the story, friends identified several exclamation points that they saw.
After the story was done, we read five sentences that were pulled from the story. We chatted about the punctuation that was used and read the sentences the way they should be read given the specific punctuation. I asked the group if they noticed anything about the beginning of each sentence and a friend shared, “They all have bigger letters!”—this started a conversation about uppercase letters/capital letters and how all sentences begin with an uppercase letters.
K.W.6.2a: Capitalization–Capitalizing the first word in a sentence and the pronoun I.
K.W.6.2b: Punctuation–Recognizing and naming end punctuation.
In PREK2, each child was given three cards that had different numbers on it. Miss Kim drew a specific number of circles and friends had to chose what number card matched the array on the chalkboard.
We tried to brighten up the rainy, dreary morning by offering a fun pumpkin activity! Children stood behind the pumpkin and put their arms through the arm holes. They chose two eyes, a nose, and a mouth and placed them (without looking!) onto the pumpkin. They came around to the front to see what their pumpkin face looked like!
Breakfast– Kix and fresh oranges.
Lunch– Grilled cheese on whole wheat bread, fresh watermelon/apples, and fresh carrots.
PM snack– Whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and cheddar block cheese.
Wee Sprout– Fresh carrots.
Have a wonderful evening!
