Happy Friday!
After reading, ‘The Giving Tree’ in K group, we brought back out the laminated number sheets from yesterday per the kids request! They each got a new sheet with four numbers on it but under each number, there was a matching dot illustration.
Today, we worked for deliberately with the numbers. Every child said aloud the four numbers that were on their sheet. After, I asked questions like, “Who has the highest number out of all 5 sheets?” or “Who has the lowest number?”.
Friends took it upon themselves to start comparing their numbers and found peers who had the same number as they did!
We moved into addition problems. I told Franklin, “Find the two smallest numbers on your sheet and add them together.” Each friend had different instructions but at the end, children were adding up all of the numbers on their sheet. They completely took over this activity and expanded it on their own!
K.NS.4: Perform one-on-one correspondence tasks.
In PREK2, children found the first letter of their first name and drew a line from the uppercase letter to its lowercase counterpart!
During kindergarten sign in, children took three scattered configurations and counted each. They took the configurations and matched it to the correct number that was written on their sign in.
K.NS.5: Count up to 20 objects arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle. Count up to 10 objects in a scattered configuration.
Earlier in the week, I shared that we’ve had a fascination with eels recently! A few of our kindergarteners have been invested in eels and using them in their art and play which spearheaded this art activity!
Today, we extended our eel art activity by exploring paper mache! A few days ago, friends started using tape and newspaper to create their own eel and today, we tackled the paper mache! Check back in next week to see the next step.
