Good Afternoon!
In K/PREK1 group today, we read, ‘Albert The Fix-It Man’. Albert had so many talents and could fix almost anything! He had several tools that he used to do his jobs.
Afterwards, we continued our discussion from yesterday about community helpers. I had six job descriptions taped up onto the chalkboard. I read one at a time and children had to work together to see what job matched that job description. I read the first description which was, “I make things out of wood. I use a hammer, saw, nails, and other tools to do my job.” Then, I read each job title and as a group, they talked about what job title fit the description. ‘Carpenter’ was the only job title friends were unsure about. Every other job title they could identify!
Social Studies: K.2.1 Give examples of people who are community helpers (inside the classroom and outside the classroom) and describe how they help us.
James has been very interested in building a marble track like we have in the past. He took it upon himself to see how his peers felt about this. He grabbed a clipboard, a piece of paper, and a pencil. He went around asking each peer if they wanted to build a marble track. For yes’s, he made a tally mark while no’s were displayed as X’s. Throughout the whole process, the results were fairly even!
On our agenda this week: build a marble track!
The balls along with the hoop were made available as soon as we went outside this morning. Maggie and Imogen tried their hardest to make baskets and they found that the more they worked at it, the easier it got! Hannah made her first basket and came running to the top of the yard shouting, “I made my basket!!”
