Good Afternoon!

We focused on patterns yet again for our PREK1 sign in where we used a pipe cleaner and a collection of beads to create our own unique bead pattern. A few children picked out their colors first before starting their pattern. There was a wide variety of patterns created including ABAB, AABC, and ABCABC.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule of simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

Today we tried a new mixing experiment.  We measured a half cup of shaving cream and a half cup of corn starch then mixed them with our hands.  Since this was a new recipe, we talked about how we might need to experiment with the amounts.  We tried adding more of one than the other until we got the right consistency to make a sticky yet crumbly play dough.

PREK2: During group we started with our usual breathwork.  We added a “breathing story” from the book “Breath Like a Bear”.  This story was called “Hot Soup”.  We practiced saying Ha-ha-ha-hot with a long open-out breath, then blowing gently on our soup to cool it.   These kinds of breathing exercises are great tools for kids to learn self regulation.  Deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, bringing the body to a calm and relaxed state.  Breathwork has been known to reduce stress/anxiety, lower heartrate and increase sleep quality as well as mental clarity for all ages.
