Good Afternoon!

We continued to talk about community helpers and what each helper needs to do their job. Today for PREK1 sign in, children were given three clues for a specific helper and they had to choose if the clues were for a farmer or a painter. A few friends were able to correctly sign in under the helper by sounding out each word! It’s amazing when children can start identifying words and sounding out words we use a lot.

Social Studies: K.4.2 Identify and describe different kinds of jobs that people do and the tools they use.

This morning we had an innovative idea at the sand table.  One of our friends discovered he could used the truck bed to make bricks out of sand.  He asked for some sticks and used them as corner posts to brace rows of his bricks.  He said he was building a house.  These are the kinds of discoveries we always hope for through free exploration of materials!

Another friend tried our most difficult puzzle this morning.  He was able to complete several different orientations of the puzzle pieces, creating different patterned designs.  These kinds of activities build memory/focus, pattern recognition, visual/spacial awareness and problem solving through trial and error.  Puzzles like this also build critical thinking skills which foster mathematical/logical thinking later on.
