Happy Friday!
We ended our week by focusing on the difference between maps and globes for our PREK1 sign in activity. We used a globe to identify places on interest. Children shared a state or country that they have visited or are planning to visit. We compared where Indiana and Michigan are compared to the place we found. Children identified places such as Portland, Ireland, South Carolina, Minnesota, Florida, and Kansas!
Social Studies: K.3.2 Identify maps and globes as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.
This morning, a couple of friends decided to create their own sign-in activity. They created charts to take around the classroom. One chart had two categories, one with triangles and one with squares. Friends were asked to find the shape with four sides. Another chart was a color chart and friends were asked to pick their favorite color and write their name next to it. This was completely child lead and child executed. Everyone who was involved with this activity practiced valuable skills like writing, kid spelling, early math, social emotional skills, creative problem solving and critical thinking. Child lead activities tend to be developmentally multifaceted.
Outdoors, we worked together to plant tomato plants in our garden. Kids helped dig out weeds, dig holes, plant the tomato plants and water the tomato plants. Most kids said the digging was their favorite part of the process!
Breakfast: Brown rice cakes with cream cheese and fresh watermelon.
Lunch: Ham and cream cheese roll-ups, whole wheat tortilla, fresh mango/watermelon/banana, and fresh cucumbers/peppers.
PM Snack: Goldfish and cheddar block cheese.
Wee Sprouts: Fresh cucumbers/peppers.
Have a great weekend!
