Good Afternoon!
Today, kids explored making mono-prints in the art center. They used their fingers to draw pictures in the paint. Next, they used paper to lay over their picture and pull up the print. It was so engaging for the first two kids that they both pulled prints for 30 minutes, filling the entire drying line with prints. Our philosophy allows kids to explore an interest fully, as long as they are engaged, creating a deep, rich and evolving learning experience. Kids only start to use their higher thinking skills when they have explored a material long enough to learn what they can do with it. Kids begin to have creative ideas, they experiment, they grow their ability for sustained focused attention. These are the learning experiences we always try to foster at Wee Friends. We would rather just a few kids spend all morning at an activity than have everyone get a short turn. The potential for those higher level thinking skills to engage and develop is too valuable. We are always happy to offer an activity as many days as needed for everyone interested to explore it fully.
We hope you enjoy a few more pictures from our day.
