Good Afternoon!

Water play was a consistent theme today in both our indoor and outdoor environments! A few younger peers asked for water exploration today so we set up two different activities at the circle table. Two black bins were put at the table for children to wash and clean the animals that we use on the building rug while the blue tuff tray was made available for children who wanted to practice pouring and moving water around.

At the tuff tray, two younger peers were pouring water into their larger rubber bowls and they were wondering why the bowl wasn’t staying still. We talked about how things move in water verses land. They were extremely curious about this and continued to talk about how the materials they were using behaved in water verses how they would act on land.

Outside, several areas were set up where children could explore water. During the summer, we often have water activities out to stay cool but it’s one of our favorite sensory activities to engage in while outside.

Water play is such a crucial sensory activity for early childhood aged children. In the article below, water play is explained as not such a popular activity among children but it also enhances their creative and imagination, promotes good health and wellbeing, and provides opportunities for explorative learning. The article attached below offers great reasoning as to why water play is a simple but important activity to offer children!
