Good Afternoon!
This morning we explored natural objects like pinecones, seeds, acorns, sticks, etc. in an open ended tabletop activity. Some kids asked questions about the different types of pinecones. We found they looked different because they came from different types of conifers. We had spruce, scotch pine and sugar pine cones. Kids enjoyed finding all of the pinecones that looked alike and grouping them. Other kids pretended to make “coffee grounds” using some gum tree seeds. Open ended exploration can go in so many different directions :).
Outdoors, we continued to explore what we could do with natural materials at the art center. We used sticks, seeds and beans to create gluey collages on paper board.
Kids have been exploring new ways to use sand with the addition of a water pump in the sand box. Drip castles have been a very popular new building technique. The more varied the materials kids have access to exploring, the more complex the neuropathways that form in response to engaging with them.
We hope you enjoy a few more pictures.
