Good Afternoon!

We had a busy, active morning! Our two kindergarteners focused on analyzing our class: eye color, hair color, and gender which lead into a small group traveling throughout the classroom to help them find answers.

For our kindergarten activity, S and A filled in a chart to document their classmates eye color and hair color. They placed a checkmark in the correct column and at the end, tallied up the marks. We came to the conclusion that more friends had blue eyes than brown/green and more brown hair than blonde/red hair.

This led into a conversation about how we get specific colored hair or eyes or even something like freckles or curly hair. ‘A’ excitedly said, “That’s called genetics! That’s what we get from our parents!”.

The K sign in today focused on our class list and sorting friends into two groups: boys and girls. We figured out that we have more boys currently than we do girls!

To piggyback off of the kindergarten activity, our PREK1 group wrote their name under their eye color for sign in. Other friends in the class would shout out their eye color as well, excited to share in the group conversation during sign in.

Our FAB for the week focuses on neighborhoods among other things so this morning, we set up a tuff tray activity where children created their own neighborhood. As the materials were being placed into the tuff tray, we had a conversation about what we see in our neighborhoods around our area.

We shared that things like cars, animals, people, trees, and sidewalks occupy our neighborhoods! I shared that cities like New York City are vastly different because they don’t have a lot of the things we have. A younger friend eagerly shared, “My mom has been there!”.

We’ve added new materials to our magnatile bins! We had two red cars that children loved building upon. Plus, it really extended magnatile play as their magnatile creations were able to become mobile. So, we added several more cars to our bins and they’ve been quite the hit the last few days!
