Good Afternoon–
We kicked off our day by diving into rhyming words full steam! Our two kindergarteners completed a rhyming word puzzle activity where they were given one word of a two piece puzzle and matched the rhyming words together, completely every puzzle!
K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.
Later on in PREK1 group, we read ‘Green Eggs and Ham’. Throughout the story, I stopped at a word that rhymed with a previous word. Children used context clues and listened to the words to determine what word came next. After, children were given a card with an illustration on it. For example, Eliza was given the word ‘wall’. She had three cards to choose from as she was searching from the rhyming word which she determined was ‘fall’. We looked at everyone’s rhyming word matches and talked about what we visually see when looking at rhyming words. They each shared the letters at the end of their words that were the same; like ‘all’ in Eliza’s words.

Our three PREK1 friends came to sign in where they found their name and their word. They looked at a collection of three words to find the rhyming word and then circled the rhyming word when they found it.

Older kids have been asking a lot of questions about the calendar lately. There have been questions about the “small words” throughout the calendar which list holidays. There have been questions about which month comes next. We decided to offer a calendar making project…though its an unusual time of year to make one…just because of the interest kids have shown. Older friends enjoyed looking at each month and talking about what season and what holidays take place. They used this information to create a fitting illustration to go with each month of the year. One friend said that she always thought labor day was “Lemur Day” so she drew pictures of lemurs for September
.
We hope you enjoy a few more pictures from our day!
