Good Afternoon!
Our two kindergarteners came up to the island where they each completed their sign in activity. We compared shapes and identified the number of sides and vertices for several shapes. Student S quickly noticed that the number of sides and vertices was the same for each shape! We talked specifically about what the sides are on a shape versus the vertices.
K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g. number of sides, length of sides, and vertices).
Our PREK1 group kiddos came to the sign in board where they found their name on the board along with their given shape. Each child counted the vertices on their shape and circled them.

This morning a group of four friends approached me after breakfast and asked if we could please do another mixing activity like we did before with both dry ingredients and water. We tried corn starch and water today. We focused on adding small amounts at a time so we could play with the consistency. We also mixed in some amaranth grain which created an interesting texture. We made observations about what we saw and how the mixture looked or felt. One friend noticed that the amaranth grain floated on top of the water but when cornstarch was added and the mixture got thicker, it could be mixed in. When kids make observations, it builds foundational critical thinking, language and scientific inquiry skills. It encourages kids to ask questions notice patterns and compare attributes.
Later, we enjoyed a “yoga obstacle course” When we got to the end, we could try the yoga pose shown on a card. Each time we went around the course, we found a different card at the end to try!
We hope you enjoy a few more pictures from our day!
