Happy Friday!

Older friends enjoyed their first trip of the fall to Prairie Winds Nature Farm!  We helped Farmer Charlotte take care of the animals as we moved manure to the compost pile.  Kids enjoyed the challenge of dragging it all the way to the top!  We got to watch as adults moved hay bales for the horses down from the hay loft.  We talked about the hay elevator and how it moves the bales into the loft.  After we helped out in the barn, we went for a nature hike.  We visited the pond, where kids enjoyed making “boats” out of leaves  We found several natural objects like mushrooms, a walnut and acorns growing on an oak tree.  Kids enjoyed spending some time just playing in the woods and collecting objects for their imaginative play.  The kids really enjoyed finding a long stick and making a teeter totter.  When it was not working at first,  we learned that we needed a “fulcrum” to place in the middle.  We were able to use a log and the teeter totter worked!  Everyone enjoyed trying it out!

Back at Wee Friends, we finally were able to enjoy some outside time. Before going outside, children immersed themselves in different activities such as bead bracelets and whiteboard drawing.

A large group of kiddos gathered in the science area where we read a new nonfiction books. The first book we read was about sharks and later, we read a Magic School Bus book about beehives! We learned that there are hexagon shapes in the comb (kiddos were excited to identify the hexagon as we’ve been talking about shapes the last few weeks). We also learned that bears love honey and thankfully, they can’t be stung by bees because they’re fur is too thick. We learned about the queen bee in the hive and what she does!

We were thankful to get some fresh air this morning!
