Happy Monday!
We kicked off the week in our kindergarten curriculum by talking about the important aspects of how a story is created: characters, setting, and events. I had a collection of three MACK stories that each child could choose from. They both chose ‘I’m The Best’ and identified all of the characters they remembered. They wrote their names and by the end of their sign in, they both had remembered all of the characters.
K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g. characters, settings, or events).
For our PREK1 sign in, we used ‘Tacky In Trouble’ to aid in our sign in. Each child came to the sign in board to write their name under the main character in the story. We used this book later on in the day for our group story.
When we were done reading the story in group, children worked together to fill in the chart. We’ll read a different book each day and fill in the chart for that day, working with identifying the characters, the setting, and a few important events.
K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g. characters, settings, or events).
This morning, a friend asked if he could make a puppet. We got out some materials the kids could use like yarn, tape, glue, scissors and round pieces of cardstock. Kids mostly used yarn for hair, though one child used his yarn as fire coming out of his dragons mouth. Kids really enjoyed putting on puppet shows when they were done!
We offered a sorting activity at the round table which encouraged kids to sort buttons into groups. We talked about sorting by size or color. We also counted how many we put in each of our sorted groups.
PREK2: Today, we practiced counting groups of stars during group. Our older kids were able to count the groups of stars and how many they had all together, while younger kids counted just how many stars they had. This way, kids could do the task that was developmentally appropriate for them.
Breakfast: Whole wheat toast with butter/cinnamon and fresh pears.
Lunch: Whole wheat pasta with kidney beans and chicken, fresh cantaloupe/strawberries and fresh cucumbers/tomatoes/peppers.
PM Snack: Whole milk yogurt with granola.
Wee Sprouts: Fresh cucumbers/tomatoes/peppers.
Have a lovely afternoon!
