Happy Monday!

We read, ‘Hey, Little Ant’ in K/PREK1 group which is one of our favorites from the MACK collection. This week, our MACK is:

Children will learn about kindness and the power of positive words.

In the story, a child contemplates stepping on an ant. They have a conversation throughout the story about the act and how each would feel if the rolls were reversed.

After we finished the story, we identified one of our FAB’s for the week which revolves around comparison words. Today, we focused on length. We used a tape measurer to measure four lines. Before we measured the lines, I asked the group to tell me which line they thought would be the longest/shortest. Once we were done measuring the lines, they looked at the numbers and put the lines into order from shortest to longest!

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

In PREK2, children used a scale to measure certain items. The items varied in weight. Each member got one item and they placed two items on the scale at a time, guessing which item was going to weigh more.

Earlier this morning, an activity was made available at the art table that required children to use spoons and tongs to move water and items from one container to another. Children love working with tongs and challenging their fine motor skills!

Happy Monday!I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

Today we swapped out our moon sand sensory bin for our festive Fall bin. Friends were all very happy and excited to see the difference in what was in the bins and play with it. The mixture had black beans, corn, corn stalks/husks and pine cones.

Friends had a great time in the colorful big blocks. They love to climb in the blocks and pretend they are rowing boats. We can initiate talking about the bold color of their block and its shape as well.

One of our older Wee Wee’s has really been into sweeping inside and outside here lately. We caught her in action today in the outdoor environment sweeping the rocks off of the cement. This is a great way to learn about being helpful.

Happy Friday!

Evie and Mack used our play clock to find six different times. They moved the hour and minute hands to match the time. We talked about the times throughout the day that are specific to us such as 12:00 for lunch!

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

We read, ‘The Napping House’ in K/PREK1 group. Before we started reading it, I asked questions such as, “Tell me of any characters that you recall in this story?” or “Can you tell me where the setting is in the story?”. They were able to give me tons of details before reading it.

K.RL.2.2: With support, retell familiar stories, poems, and nursery rhymes, including key details.

Happy Friday!

This morning friends asked to read teacher books.  At one point, they specifically asked for teachers to read rainbow books.  We weren’t exactly sure what book they were wanting, but we found a new book we hadn’t read that Miss Tami bought for us that had a rainbow on it. We enjoyed reading it and listening to a new our new book.

We then headed into the kitchen to paint with shapes.  Miss Annastecia read us a book about shapes.  We read about a large variety of shapes, but also the shape blocks we had for us to use.  Friends then chose our paint colors today and they were pink, purple and blue.  We had a great time making shape prints on our papers.

A friend was using her imaginative play skills with the leaves she found on the ground.  She was pretending her leaf was a camera and was taking pictures of her friends.  A few other friends joined in and started taking pictures with her with their cameras.

Good Afternoon!

Evie and Mack took several illustrations from one of our favorite stories, ‘The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear’ and put them in order for their kindergarten sign in. First, we read all of the authors words then Mack and Evie sorted them by the order in which they happened in the story.

K.1.4: Identify and order events that take place in a sequence.

In K/PREK1 group, we read a book from our MACK collection titled ‘The Sandwich Swap’. It’s a great story that focuses on friendship and communicating when needed. It fit perfectly with our MACK for the week:

Children will learn to define friendship and to recognize the friendships they have with their peers.

In PREK2 group, children read ‘If You Give A Pig A Pancake’. They took specific events that occurred in the story and placed them in order.

First, we used dot markers to color a large piece of cardboard. We enjoyed learning all of the different colors we were using to make our cardboard full of life and color.

Second, we engaged in a parachute activity which turned into many different types of activities within the same parachute! We shook it really fast, really slow, friends helped teachers shake it, we hid our legs under the chute, we placed our legs on top, we rolled balls across, and we shook the chute with the balls on top. We had a parachute BLAST!!!

DSCN4387DSCN4386

In K/PREK1, we continued to dive into calendars and why we use them. Afterwards, we had a quick conversation about clocks and what they’re used for. Tomorrow in group, we will get to explore a play clock and what the various things are that make up a clock!

Good Afternoon.

Today we had two friends that were dressed for Halloween and it was so cute to see them all decked out in their orange and black clothing.

PA053722PA053724

We engaged in a super fun sensory activity this morning that was two fold. We played in shaving cream first. We got our animals all “dirty” (with the cream) and then gave them a bath with water. We LOVED this activity and engaged in it for a pretty lengthy time. Smile

PA053736PA053739

PA053738PA053744
