Happy Monday!

During K/PREK1 group, we always do a quick calendar activity before journaling. We talk about the month that we’re currently in along with the date and the day of the week. At the beginning of each month, we highlight the ‘stay at home days’ so that we can identify days that we’re at school versus when we’re at home. We also highlight birthdays in each month as well as holidays! Children love to explore the calendar and say things like “It’s two more days until the weekend!” after looking at the calendar and the days that are already marked off.

For kindergarten sign in, Evie and Mack started diving into concepts of time, specifically calendars and clocks!

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

Children used fall stamps at the art table this morning. Friends chose from a bat, kitten, and a pumpkin. The process of stamping was discussed before children began and they caught on very quickly!

Even though it was a gloomy morning, children had a blast cooking up a storm in the housekeeping area and kicking our red balls around the outdoor environment. Several of our friends are involved in soccer so they love practicing outside!

Happy Monday. I hope you all had a great weekend.

This morning friends wanted to color with markers, so we got out their journal binders for them to make their creations. Friend can find their binder with their names on them so they know which one is theirs.

Good Afternoon!

Evie and Mack focused on the phrase ‘equal to’ during their kindergarten sign in. They had to identify and draw an equal group for the three examples that were given. They counted the items in each group and drew the equal set right next to it.

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

We read, ‘In My Heart’ during K/PREK1 group. It’s a WONDERFUL story that dives into different feelings that our heart feels.

Cards were placed face down in the middle of our circle. Each group member picked two cards and flipped them over. They identified the two numbers they had, said aloud which number was bigger, and placed the correct sign in between the two numbers!

A large group of friends worked together in the habitrail this morning to make an extra long dinner table! They were playing ‘family’ and used the materials in habitrail for their play experience. For example, the wooden blocks were plates with food on them!

Daniel worked on his camouflage this morning. He was very determined and quick at finding something that would allow him to be camouflaged in the environment.

Good Afternoon.

This morning Miss Annastecia and friends were excited to go into the kitchen and paint with spiders. Friends took the legs of their pretend spiders and dabbed them onto their papers. This activity enhances our sensory, hand-eye coordination, and color recognition skills.

Good Afternoon.

A friend asked for the swing today. The swing is a great place to have fun, relax and enjoy a light breeze as we swing back and forth. There are times the swing decides to go its own way and spin in circles. Friends love when that happens. Smile

Paige enjoyed engaging with Bekah with the circle stackers. While stacking them, Miss Bekah was also working with Paige with the colors of the circles that were being stacked.

Good Afternoon!

**Over the next few weeks, please bring your child in clothing appropriate for the fall and teachers will send home summer clothes. Please look in your child’s cubby for clothes to take home. Thanks!

Mack and Evie used alligator mouths to complete problems using the terms ‘greater than’, ‘less than’, and ‘equal to’. I use alligator mouths as an analogy because its a simple concept that children come to understand: an alligator would much rather have ten pieces of cake than five pieces of cake (meaning that the mouth is open to the 10).

We extended this activity into K/PREK1 group as each member got to choose two numbers. We used the alligator mouths to see which way the sign would be pointing. We came to the last problem where we realized that the two numbers were the same, which required an equal sign!

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.
