Good Afternoon!

Today is our friend Paige’s 1st birthday!  Happy Birthday Paige!  We are so glad we got to celebrate your birthday with you.

P5122554

We engaged with our musical instruments this morning.  We enjoyed playing them to sing Happy Birthday to our friend Paige.  After singing to her, we playing while singing other familiar songs; BINGO, Old MacDonald Had a Farm and Shake or Sillies Out.  Instead of shaking our sillies out we tapped our sillies out using the instruments.

Friends were busy outside filling their dump truck with sand.  They used a shovel to scoop the sand and put it in the truck.  When they were ready to scoop the sand out of the dump truck, they said they were using their “excavator hands” to do it.

Another friend was playing with the sea animals.  He decided to sort the animals by kind and place each kind separately using the stools.  The frogs he also sorted by the colors on them and skin type; bumpy skin and smooth skin.

Good Afternoon!

Kindergarteners tackled addition problems using cents and money today for their sign in activity and group activity. We identified the four main coins and also talked about how much each coin is worth!

Social Studies: K.4.1 Explain that people work to earn money to buy the things they want. Introduce money names and values.

New additions were placed in the housekeeping area this morning! We added materials that centered about being a vet: animals, pretend tools, clipboards with check-in sheets, and other materials. Friends loved exploring the new additions!

Before heading outside this morning, Sophia and Mack worked together to build a SUPER tall magnatile tower! We can easily say it’s the tallest tower that’s been built (at least lately!).

Good Afternoon!

In K group, we read ‘The Paperboy’ which sparked a conversation about the way in which adults get money. I asked how adults get money to buy things they need and want: “Their jobs!” a friend shared. We talked about the various jobs that people and child can do to earn money. After we read the story, friends shared things that the main character may buy with his paper route money (toys and food being the most popular!).

Kindergarteners completed a simple sign in that required them to draw lines from the coin to the coin name. Most children noticed the difference in color between a penny and the rest of the coins.

Our newest fine motor activity was placed on the circle table for the welcome activity. Two wooden rainbow shapes were placed on trays with wooden tongs and various colored felt balls. Children used the tongs to place the felt balls onto the rainbow, often implementing some sort of pattern.

Good Afternoon!

Today we engaged in a painting and sensory experience. We had 4 different brushes to choose from. We had a thin brush, a thick brush, a sponge and a tooth brush to explore and use to spread the paint on our papers to make our beautiful masterpieces.  Our 1 year old friends joined us and explored the feel of the paint on their brushes.

Good Afternoon!

We began our morning in the habitrail and block area. We were busy climbing, playing with balls and using our imaginative play skills while walking the animals around.

We then engaged in an art activity using dot paint markers on coffee filters.  We had a choice of a small, medium or large size coffee filter to paint on.  We then dotted away making our coffee filters very colorful.  Some of us even put 2 dots on top of each other which we noticed created a new color.

While we were outside, we all spent a large amount of time engaged with the trucks and Little People down by the small house.  We were busy driving our trucks around the path and hauling mulch and rocks.

Happy Monday!

We read, ‘Those Shoes’ in K group today. It’s a book that revolves around a group of boys who have the newest, most fashionable shoes. All expect for two boys. The main character has a conversation with his grandma about these shoes and how much they cost. The central problem within the story is deciding what’s a want (those new snazzy shoes) and a need (winter boots).

This lead us to create a web where each child came up with a word that they thought of when they heard the word ‘money’. Once they came up with their word, they had to decide when rolling up their mat if their word was a ‘want’ or a ‘need’.

Social Studies: K.4.1 Explain that people work to earn money to buy the things they want. Introduce money names and values.

DSCN3406

Our focus this week will be around money terms and how people work to earn money to buy things. Sign-in this morning required kindergarteners to write what we use money for (shopping, buying things, etc.). Then, they had to draw something that they or their family buys using money. Friends drew things such as toys and a table.

In PREK2, children spun a wheel where they identified the chosen coin and its worth. Then, they found that coin and placed the coin into the piggy bank!

Happy Friday!

Several children frequented the art table this morning sharing, “I’m going to make my mommy a card!”—you would think that this is something special because we’re coming up on Mother’s Day weekend. But it’s not. This happens every single day. All of these children absolutely adore their moms (and dads!). And so do we! We couldn’t do this without our families. It is a true partnership.

We hope that all current and past Wee Friends moms have an absolutely wonderful Mother’s Day weekend. You deserve it! Red heart

Enjoy a sneak peak into our Friday!

Good Afternoon!

Today we were engaged in cooking in the play kitchens both inside and outside.  We were making all kinds of food to eat.  Friends shared with Miss Annastecia at  the inside kitchen they were making tea.   Nesta was using the basting brush to dry off the rain drops off of our pretend cookies.

P5062300P5062299P5062336P5062341

After we already had our coats on ready to go outside, we found out it was sprinkling just a little bit. So we headed out with hoods up and ran in the rain. It got a little harder so we went over and stood against the house.  We could see the rain coming down, so we watched it and talked about how we knew it was dry where we were standing because part of the sidewalk was dry and the other part was wet.

P5062321P5062325

It finally completely stopped so we dried everything off and played.
