Happy Snowy Thursday! Today is HAPPY FACE DAY @ WWF.

Nesta thought she would stop by to say how happy she is about all the beautiful snow.

What a happy face… that we always LOVE to see on our friends faces.

Good Afternoon!

One of our favorite things to do in K/PREK1 group is to read a variety of stories: non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and fairytales allow us to understand various aspects of story writing. Yesterday, we read a short fairytale based on the character, Cinderella. We talked about the different characters we may find in fairytales.

Today, we focused on fiction stories and what exactly fiction means. We decided that fiction = fake which plays on alliterations which Grady’s been exploring lately. After we were done discussing fiction stories, we read ‘The Clumsy Click Beetle’ which focused on the main character, a click beetle. Throughout the story, the click beetle talked to other animals which is where a friend commented, “Beetles can’t talk! That’s not real.”

K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g., fiction, nonfiction, fairytales, poems).

In PREK2, they also focused on different genres on stories, specifically the difference between fiction and non-fiction.

Several areas of the environment are filled with ‘pretend’ play throughout the day. I found this Teacher Tom article that describes that, “Dramatic play is an important part of how children come to understand reality, a safe place where they can explore themes and concepts they want to better comprehend.”

Good Afternoon.

Today we worked on utilizing our fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills by coloring in our journals and building with the waffle blocks.

While coloring in our journal binders a friend was making multiple marks on his paper and said, I just draw my name… my whole name!” We LOVE to see our friends get excited and expand their cognitive skills.

Happy Friday!

**Reminder: The ‘Pre-Conference Form’ (yellow) is due next Friday, February 7th. Thank you!

Our Friday consisted of:

Conversations centered around authors and illustrators and the importance they play in the creation of stories. A friend in K/PREK1 shared, “I think that the author writes the words first so the illustrator knows what to draw.”

Children of various ages journaling throughout the day. The open concept of journaling appeals to all of our friends because what they journal about it important and meaningful to them.

With February right around the corner and Valentine’s Day soon we will send out a list of all of our friends names, so that if you choose, you can give Valentine’s  cards. This is not a must, but for those families that would like to participate we will have the names of our friends readily available.

Please enjoy the pictures from our day!

Good Afternoon!

In K/PREK1, we read ‘How Are You Peeling’ which is a book from our MACK selection! It is a booking focused on feelings but using fruits and vegetables. The illustrations in the story weren’t drawings but pictures so we talked about the word ‘photographer’.

K.RL.3.2: Define the role of the author and illustrator of a story in telling the story.

K.RL.4.1: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear.

DSCN9203DSCN9204DSCN9201

In PREK2, children each got to bring a toy to group from the environment. Miss Kim used the toys as focal points in the story. Once the story was read, each friend got to illustrate a page.

DSCN9191DSCN9192DSCN9195

While we offer more guided art experiences where teachers put out materials for children to explore, lately, our older friends have been using the art area as the ultimate imagination portal.

Today, Grady drew ‘Peter Parker’. Once he was done, he created a Spiderman mask for Peter. Several friends followed this idea as various versions of Spiderman masks were created. Art materials are offered but it’s children’s imaginations and initiative that create these meaningful art experiences.
