Good Afternoon.

Today Ellie and Nesta were very enthusiastic about swinging on the ever so popular swing. Ellie is aware of how holding onto the swing is imperative to her safety, while Nesta will need to learn that skill as she gets older and with time.  None the less Nesta LOVED her first experience.

Good Afternoon!

K/PREK1 continued our adventure into different text genres. Today, we read ‘Fantastic Bats’ and quickly, friends shouted out, “That’s nonfiction!”

Throughout the story, we learned various and interesting facts about bats. For instance, did you know that bats can fly up to 60 miles per hour? We used the speed of a car on the highway to compare.

N asked, “So the illustrator drew those pictures right?”. I told her that these pictures weren’t drawn but rather someone took photos of the bats that were highlighted throughout the story.

K.RL.3.2: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairy tales, poems).

In PREK2, each friend got a turn to identify the shape that was different in their given group. For example, when Sophia made her way to the board, she noticed that every shape had hearts on it except the first picture which had a triangle. She identified the different one by circling it!

‘Beautiful Oops’ is one of our favorite books! It is super interactive and turns ‘oops’ into beautiful creations!

Miss Annastecia took newspaper and ripped it into various sizes. Friends were invited to the table to make their own creation out of a newspaper scrape.

Good Afternoon!

**Parents: If you would like bug spray applied to your child during our outside time, please bring in a bottle specifically for your child as we do not have communal bug spray at Wee Friends. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Thanks!

‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’ was on the K/PREK1 itinerary today as we dove into a specific genre: fiction! We took our knowledge of stories one step further from last week after discussing authors and illustrators and their role in the creation of a story.

This week, we’ll be focusing on different narrative text genres and today, we started with fiction. Right away, a few children shouted, “Fiction means not real!”

Each day, we’ll read a story from a different genre and then discuss what that genre entails.

K.RL.3.2: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairy tales, poems).

Miss Kim put a cheetah in the middle of two animal groups. Each child in PREK2 had to count the two groups and decide which group was bigger. They identified the bigger group and therefore, had the cheetah eat the bigger group!

Our new canvas’s are coming along and today, we took another step toward completion! A few different sparkle options were offered and children added varying sparkles to their canvas. Some children chose to make lines with the sparkles and others chose to add sparkles to the corners of their artwork.

Friends were quite anxious to get a turn to continue working on their canvas! Grady and David patiently waited for their names to be called by peering through the window.

Good Afternoon and Happy First day of Fall Smile

The dramatic play center has been in full swing here lately with our Wee Wee’s. Friends have been engaging themselves with the baby dolls. They enjoy feeding them, burping them and changing their clothes and diaper’s.

Dramatic Play allows children to see the world and their environment from a different perspective, it can also aid in helping a child expand their imaginations, increase their vocabulary, build confidence and build on their problem solving skills.

To introduce our Fall season we swapped out the ever so popular sensory table. We now have a mixture of corn, black beans and pine cones.

With this fun activity we utilize our fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills to scoop, pour and dump the colorful mixture into cups and bowls. We all had a GREAT time!

Good Afternoon,

Today’s morning activity was enjoyed by many. Magna Tiles were used as the game board, and bears were the game pieces. Just like in other board games, the players rolled the dice and moved that many spaces. Games like this are great practice for one-to-one correspondence skills.

Our Kindergarteners finished illustrating their book today. They titled the book, “Kingdom Castle.” Ms. Annastecia is going to laminate it, and then put it on display for all to read.

Happy Wednesday!

DSCN8074DSCN8075

Ms. Annastecia did a special activity with the Kindergarteners. This week we are discussing the roles of authors and illustrators. The Kindergartners each got the opportunity to select a story rock with an image on it from a bag. As they each selected a rock, they were to add to the existing story. This taught the group that authors are individuals to write words to a book.

Later in the week, the Kindergarteners will draw pictures with their story contribution, thus showing them the significance of illustrators.

DSCN8086DSCN8087

In the PreK2 group, we discussed the amount of sides and lengths of shapes. Each of them was assigned a shape and were given straws to copy it.

DSCN8094

Large group did a fun I Spy Game. The focus was to practice identifying shape attributes. So Ms. Annastecia would say “I spy with my little eye…a shape that has three sides. The group would have to locate and name that shape. Each of the group members also got a chance to lead in the I Spy Game.

Happy Wednesday!

This morning we all had a GREAT time taking a wagon ride around the neighborhood. We saw so many neat things that we were excited to talk about.

We saw several fire hydrants, scarecrows (for Fall decorating) people riding their bikes, berries on a tree….and we even saw Miss Tami’s house! Smile We had a great time and even better conversation on all the fun things we saw.  What an awesome morning!!!
