**Just a reminder, we are having PJ DAY tomorrow (Wednesday, November 23rd).

** Now that the weather has gotten colder, please make sure that your child has gloves/mittens and a hat everyday for outside play. Thank you!

Today was a day for building. We used a variety of different materials to construct our creations.

Many friends enjoyed taking their turn on the swing.

The art table was full of friends drawing beautiful pictures and decorating styrofoam pieces that fit together like a puzzle.

In large group–

We read the story ‘Thanksgiving Is For Giving Thanks’. We incorporated our FAB for the week which focuses on being a responsible member of a group or within a family. We talked about thanksgiving traditions within each family along with what makes us thankful in general. Some of the answers were the obvious responses: family and friends. Then we started branching out and sharing what we are truly thankful for; what makes us happy. Other answers varied; for example, playing catch, teachers, and leaves on the trees. When children started talking about what makes them happy, joy and a whole bunch of smiles filled the science area!

Breakfast: Cheerios and pears.

Lunch: Hummus on whole wheat bread/flatbread, banana, kiwi and cauliflower.

Afternoon Snack: Whole wheat bagel with cream cheese.

Wee Sprouts: Cucumbers/Peppers.

Have a great evening.

In large group, we geared our chalk board talk to the FAB for the week (Social Studies: K.2.4 Give examples of how to be a responsible family member and member of a group.). We discussed how we can be good classmates and leaders. Friends came up with various ideas such as leading by example, making sure that younger children don’t hit their head on the cubbies, and raking leaves!

Happy Friday!

**With the looming weather, please make sure that your child comes to school next week prepared for the weather as we will be going outside (i.e., coat, hat, gloves, possibly snow pants).

**Just a reminder that it will be a three day week next week as we are CLOSED Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th for the holiday.

This morning, we drew pictures from a different perspective. “Why are we coloring under the table, Miss Mindy?!”—because we can! Smile

It’s always nice to shake things up and try new things.

While most of our friends laid down on their back and colored, Anna and Rosemary wanted to do it their own way. At first, they tried laying down but it didn’t suit them so they decided to sit up and re-configure their bodies to still do the activity.

It was completely different but also acceptable and THEIR right way.

We enjoyed what is probably the last gorgeous day of the year. We didn’t even need coats this morning! “What?! We don’t need coats?”—no, no you don’t (probably the last day of the year we’ll say that!).

In our purple porch shipment this week, we received white radishes! We cut them up this morning and allowed friends to try them! Of course, this was an optional thing but many of our friends were quite impressed with the radishes!

Our friends started their morning crawling through tunnels! They loved looking up through the window on top of the biggest tunnel and also watching as their friends crawled by it.

Sophia asked to do puzzles next, so they all sat at the kitchen table together and chose their puzzles. Our friends worked hard at fitting the pieces into the correct spots.

After snack we brought down the sensory tubes. Ruby held the one with bells in it up to her eyes and watched them roll pass. Then she held it up to her ear to listen to them and said, “Noise!”

The sensory tubes then led to the sensory circles. Our friends enjoyed jumping, stomping, and hopping from one to the other!

Breakfast was Kix and pears. Wee sprout was corn. Lunch consisted of whole grain brown rice with broccoli, banana, and corn. Afternoon snack was graham crackers and cheddar cheese.

Good Afternoon!

In the early years of a child’s life, they develop in many ways. One of the ways that they develop is in their play. Starting from infancy, children are aware of their surroundings and important people in their life. Building relationships with one another starts early and only grows as they become toddlers and preschoolers.

Most of our children here are in one of three different stages of play: parallel play (child play next to others without verbal interaction), associative play (verbal interaction, but few attempts to organize the situation), and co-operative play (each child taking an active role to plan and structure the play situation while collaborating with each other).

As you can see, our day is scattered with varying levels of play. Thankfully, our program allows for the diversity of age which allows a two year old to play with a five year old. In some situations, the five year old can bring the two year old more to his or her level. These situations offer children to learn problem solving skills, social skills, and overall confidence in the our environment.

Here are a few articles I found that talk about the different stages of play and useful toys or activities that would suit a given stage!

Regardless of age, play stage, or developmental level, relationships are made and nurtured on a daily basis.

Breakfast– Kix and raspberries.

Lunch– Organic, brown rice with broccoli and cheese, cauliflower, and oranges.

PM snack– Pumpkin seeds and triscuits.

Wee Sprouts– Cauliflower.
