Good Afternoon Families!

Hannah came in this morning saying she was interested in whirlpools (of all things, love how her mind works!).  We talked about how tides cause whirlpools in the ocean.   We also talked about how we might see small ones in our everyday life, like in the bathtub or in the toilet.  We created an experiment to see if we could make our own whirlpool. We tried several utensils to spin the soapy water until we made a whirlpool in the middle.  Once again, thank you Hannah for adding to our curriculum!

Our welcome activity invited counting and sorting.  Friends gathered special jewels from the middle and could sort them by size shape or color if desired.  Numbers were provided for friends who wanted to create math problems or match numbers to amounts counted.

First thing this morning Nesta came in talking about the Ballet class that she and Hannah had attended together.  Some younger friends were interested in what they were doing so the two girls decided to teach a little ballet class on the building rug.  Everyone loved it!

Good Afternoon!

We engaged in several different activities with another day inside away from the cold! We started with some housekeeping play, then moved on to building with the big, wooden blocks. Friends enjoyed sitting on the blocks to pretend they were on trains. Lastly, friends made a trail to follow with the textured stepping stones!

Some of our younger friends enjoyed exploring our basket of Legos and Lego people.

We ended our morning with puzzles in the kitchen with Ms. Bekah. As they completed their puzzles, they named the different colors and shapes that they recognized. Eleanor explored her first puzzle that had different color and shaped cars on it!

Happy Tuesday!

We were active in so many activities it was hard to choose what to highlight today.  We acted out the Beanie Bag dance song with the bean bags by Greg and Steve, we built with the color train, climbed on the habi-trail, rolled a ball, made music on the xylophone and pianos, made “ice cream” and snuggled on the pillow on the reading step.

We then headed into the kitchen to engage with loose part wooden blocks of a variety of shapes and animals.  We had some small animals and added some of our larger animals to enhance our play.

Good Afternoon!

As PREK1 group came to sign in, they were asked to choose a colored notecard from the bottom of the sign in board. Once they chose a card, they counted how many items were on their card. Most children used their index finger as a guide when they were counting. Once they came to the number, they identified it on the board where they then taped the card under the correct number!

K.NS.4: Perform one to one correspondence tasks.

K.NS.5: Count up to 20 objects arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle. Count up to 10 objects in a scattered configuration.

This morning we worked with letters.  In the sensory bin we added letters to the water table.  Older kids tried to identify which letters of the alphabet they didn’t see in the water…and of course they made alphabet soup!  In the art center we worked with letter stamps.  Several friends worked on stamping their name or first name letter.  One of our older friends loves putting the alphabet in order from A to Z so she worked on that project with her stamps.

PREK2:  During group today we practiced yoga and deep breathing.  We read the story “Dr Seuss ABC” which does a good job of focusing on letter sounds.  After the story we came up to the board to identify and circle our name.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we engaged with the color stacking bowls and shape stackers.  We worked on placing them by size and worked to identify the colors and the shape of stacker we had, circles or triangles.

Good Afternoon!

It was finally time to create box town this morning and see where our imaginations took us!  Everyone helped set up the town and create roads between.  Some last minute additions were added.  We found a couple more boxes to use to create an airport and a grocery store.  We added people and vehicles to our town and began to play!  Everyone was excited to play with the fire department so we used some orange construction paper to cut out a “fire”.  Everyone took turns putting the fire on different buildings and being the fire fighters that came to put it out.  Ryan loved being the fire starter!  William enjoyed being the mail carrier.  We cut up some pieces of paper to use as letters to fill the truck and William delivered letters to all the buildings.  Hannah went to the art center to make some news papers to add to the mail delivery system. Later William worked as the road commission,  fixing and building roads. Adrian set up the grocery store.  He also went to the art center to make a sign for the airport which he taped on.  He set up the library and we made some tiny books to put inside as well.  Nesta founded the road commission and then ran the school the rest of the time.  The game went on all morning and everyone did their part running the town as well as cleaning up afterward!  We can’t wait to see how the game unfolds tomorrow!

Good Afternoon!

We began our morning engaged in a variety of activities.  Ben fed a baby a bottle, Dax sat and looked at a book on the reading step, Charlotte enjoyed listening to Miss Jena read her a book and Eliza played doctor and Dax was her patient.

IMG_8909IMG_8923IMG_8925IMG_8933

We then headed into the kitchen to engage in a sensory activity with playdough.  We added pipe cleaners to our playdough tools to use to stick into it.  We were busy using rollers to roll it out along with playdough scissors and craft sticks to work at cutting it into smaller pieces.

IMG_8938IMG_8940IMG_8944IMG_8950IMG_8962[4]

We then got our bodies in motion while acting out some songs.  We love the song Listen and Move by Greg and Steve.  Each sound has a movement for us to do.  We walk, gallop, tiptoe, skate, run and hop.  Then the second time, we have to remember what movement each of the sounds represented.
