Good afternoon!

This morning we engaged in the housekeeping kitchen and used our imaginative play skills to cook with our play food. Both Arthur and Eliza used the orange pan, while Dax used the purple bowls.

We enjoyed dressing and wrapping up our baby dolls in silk scarves, baby hats, and a sleep sack.

IMG_4700IMG_4725IMG_4716

We also gathered in the front area of our classroom to build and play trains with another friend, the wooden cars, looking out the window and climbing on top of big plastic blocks.

Good Afternoon!

This morning Emily asked if we could have the jingle bells to shake while listening to the song Jingle Bells. We all loved shaking our bells to the music multiple times.

IMG_4636IMG_4637IMG_4638IMG_4639IMG_4641IMG_4645

We then all headed over to turn our big plastic blocks into row boats while we listened to the song, Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

Several friends then went to build with the stackers and colored beads.  Paige used her imaginative skills and turned her stacker over to make it into a table and used the color beads to make a birthday cake.  Hannah helped her make the cake.

Good Afternoon!

Our three kindergarteners came up to the island one at a time to complete their sign in. Today’s sign in focused on punctuation. On their sign in, there were three categories: period, question mark, and exclamation mark. We read six sentence strips and they had to determine which group each sentence went into. The sentences that ended in a question mark seemed to be the easiest to identify for most children.

A few of our older children attempted making pot holders for the first time this morning. It was challenging to say the least! It was the first time they explored this activity and they kept with it for quite some time. We’ll continue to offer it and like with almost anything, their confidence and comfortability will improve with time.

Good Afternoon!

This morning Paige asked to read teacher books.  Miss Bekah chose from our stack several of our favorite paperback books.

IMG_4588IMG_4591

We then headed into the kitchen to engage in our corn and bean sensory table.  We used a variety of cups and scoops to practice our scooping and pouring skills.  Emily noticed that a scoop was similar to her brother, Ben’s formula scoop.

IMG_4601IMG_4600

We then engaged ourselves in the housekeeping area.  Paige and Hannah were trying on different headbands, Arthur was busy mixing in the sink using the wood people and Emily was putting a sleep sack on her baby doll.

IMG_4613IMG_4615IMG_4617IMG_4619

We then bundled up to get some fresh air.  We enjoyed going down the slide, playing in the little playhouse or sitting at the table while talking to friends from the other classroom.

Happy Monday!

**As a reminder, Wee Friends will be closed Monday, December 26th through Friday, January 6th.

Using the unifix cubes, kindergarteners were asked to create their own pattern as well as draw it on their sign in page. Two kindergarteners chose an ABAB pattern while the third kindergartner chose an ABBABB pattern.

In K/PREK1 group, we read, ‘Those Shoes’. It’s about a boy named Jeremy who can’t afford the black and white shoes that his classmates have. Throughout the story, we witnessed his journey of Jeremy wanting to fit in as well as how he treated peers and friends with respect and kindness. The difference between a need and a want was addressed throughout the story. .

When we were done reading the story, we talked about three things that made up the story: characters, setting, and events. We talked about the main characters in the story as well as the many different places where the story took place. I asked for two events but children insisted, “We have more things that happened!”. So, we continued to write them down and when we ran out of room, group members still wanted to share a few more events that occurred in the story.

Happy Friday!

This morning while friends were building with Magna-Tiles, they used their imaginative play skills with the tiles they put together.  They shared that they were a camera and friends were busy taking pictures of each other and other items in the classroom.

IMG_4561IMG_4564IMG_4563IMG_4562IMG_4541IMG_4536

The friends engaged in a painting activity with vehicles.  We used a variety of colors, dipped our vehicle’s wheels in paint and drove them all over our papers to make many tracks to create our paintings.

Happy Friday!

Kindergarten sign in focused on opposites! Children were given seven words and they had to write the opposite next to each word. Before they started, we talked about the word ‘opposite’. A few kindergarteners are starting to kid spell which is when we stretch a word and they write the sounds that they hear. For example, ‘night’ may look like ‘nit’ when children kid spell.

Good afternoon!

This morning we engaged in different kinds of dress up. Some of our friends, like Hannah and Dax, tried different hats on. Other friends, like Paige and Emily, put on a fancy dress and silk scarf to dance while listening to the Let It Go song from the movie Frozen.

IMG_4464IMG_4471IMG_4467IMG_4472

We had a great time using the Habi-trail slide as a huge ramp to slide our bears and balls down.  We also used the rails of the Habi-trail to hold onto, to help us maintain our balance while standing on our big blocks.

Outside we enjoyed playing in the sandbox, exploring the playhouse, and riding the teeter-totter with our friends.

Good Afternoon!

Our 12 week FAB cycle has come to an end so we’ve taken this week to go back and extend or reteach FAB’s from earlier on in the school year. Today’s kindergarten sign in focus was shapes, specificially the number of sides on a shape. There were four groups: shapes with 0 sides, 2 sides, 3 sides, and 4 sides. They had to draw as many shapes as they could in each category. When they came to the 2 sided shape category, a few of them shared, “There aren’t any shapes with 2 sides!”

IMG_1454(1)IMG_1453(1)

The welcome activity was popular as children took turns sorting holiday colored manipulatives. Using a plate that was split into three sections, friends sorted the materials by color.

IMG_1437(1)IMG_1434(1)IMG_1408(1)

Later on in the morning, magnatiles were put out at the circle table but with an added feature: bells! Several children built a magnatile structure but used the bells to add detail to their creature.
