Good Afternoon!

This morning we went into the kitchen to draw with markers in our journal binders.  Each of the friends have their own binder with their name on the cover.  Emily and Paige were given 2 binder options to see if they could identify which binder was theirs by recognizing the first letter of their name.  They were both able to identify which binder belonged to them.

IMG_3996IMG_4003IMG_3995IMG_3999

We then engaged in an activity in a couple different area.  Emily took care of her baby doll and fed her a bottle, while the rest of us were busy climbing on or playing under the habi-trail, or sitting in the big plastic block boats.

Happy Friday!

We began our morning climbing on the habi-trail, dancing to music wearing dress-up items and engaged with a baby doll to feed it a bottle or wrap it up in a blanket.

IMG_3932IMG_3950IMG_3939IMG_3946IMG_3947IMG_3940

We then engaged in another activity with bubble wrap.  Instead of walking and jumping on it, we used a variety of tempera paint colors to paint on it.  When we were finished painting, we took a white piece of paper and made a print.

Our three kindergarteners had to decipher between addition problems and subtraction problems for their sign in this morning. They were given ten clip cards that included five addition problems and five subtraction problems. All three kindergarteners decided to use their fingers to solve each problem and once they figured out the answer, they found the answer on the side of the card and clipped it using a clothespin.

Are you in need of a mid weekend family dance session? A ‘follow the directions’ song that has been at the top of our favorites list this week is the ‘Tooty Ta’ song. It’s fun to do AND watch!

Good Afternoon!

Kindergarten sign in had multiple steps today. There were three problems, two addition and one subtraction that children had to fill in. They used dice to do this! Each number space was blank. For the first number in each equation, children rolled both dice and added the dots up. For the second number in each equation, they rolled one die. Then, depending on whether the problem had an addition sign or subtraction sign, they solved the problem and used colorful puff balls to help them find the answer.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real- world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=2+3 and 5=4+1).

After we read our story in K/PREK1 group, children chose one clip card out of a stack. They identified both numbers in the subtraction equation and once they solved the problem, they clipped the answer using a clothespin.

Nobody ended up picking an equation where the answer is 0 so we talked about this scenario as a group before we journaled. I picked two clip cards where the equations were 5-5 and 7-7. We talked about types of equations like this where the numbers are the same. When you subtract the exact same number, you’ll get zero! Daniel said, “So 100-100 is 0!”

The circle table was everchanging with activities this morning!

The welcome activity was an open ended activity where children used shapes in whatever way this wish! Some children chose to make a creature while others made a pattern design.

IMG_0376(1)IMG_0383(1)

After the wooden shapes, children requested the Montessori beads. They used the beads to create towers based on size, either building starting from smallest to biggest or biggest to smallest!

IMG_0398(1)IMG_0392(1)

Right before lunch, several children used the rubber bands and rubber band boards to make an array of things! One children made different patterns, using specific colored rubber bands. Another five year old and a teacher worked on making letters with the rubber bands! They were able to make the letters A, H, M, R, and Z to name a few!

This morning we engaged in a sensory experience with bubble wrap.  Ben and Eliza crawled on it and listened to the crinkling and popping sound it made.  The rest of our friends were busy jumping and walking on it and listening for the big loud pop they made with their feet.

IMG_3855IMG_3857IMG_3871IMG_3867IMG_3865IMG_3863

We then were busy with our snowballs.  Since it was snowing outside, we were tossing snowballs to friends and into the basket.

Good Afternoon!

The three kindergarteners tackled addition problems yesterday and today, subtraction was on the agenda! They used unifix cubes to help them solve three word problems. They all were able to start with the first number and correctly take away the smaller number to find the answer! Children were also able to work on their one to one correspondence skills along with formation of numbers.

K.CA.1-2: Solve real- world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=2+3 and 5=4+1).

We read, ‘The Three Little Pigs’ in K/PREK1 group today. Yesterday, we read a different version of the story titled, ‘The True Story of the Three Little Pigs’ which is narrated by the Wolf! The storylines are quite different so throughout the story today, we compared various events and how they were different in each story.

When we finished the story, each child was given one story problem where they had to subtract! I read aloud the story problem and we wrote the two numbers down that they’d be using for their subtraction problem. They used colored counters to find the answer! Everyone got the hang of subtracting within no time at all!

K.CA.1-2: Solve real- world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g. 5=2+3 and 5=4+1).

This morning we began by walking around on the liquid squares.

IMG_3771IMG_3772

Several of us then headed into the housekeeping area to make a fruit and vegetable salad and wrap our baby dolls up into a blanket or scarf.

IMG_3773IMG_3774IMG_3775IMG_3784

We then headed over to turn our plastic blocks into boats first and rowed our boats as we sang the Row, Row, Row, Your Boat song.  We then tossed our balls and placed our colored rings into the blocks.

IMG_3792IMG_3794IMG_3797IMG_3805

We then bundled up into our snow gear and headed outside for some fresh air and explore some snow covered ice that we found.
