Good Afternoon!

First, we want to wish a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Rowan! She turned FIVE years old today! We were so happy that we were able to celebrate her birthday with her today.

IMG_7886

For kindergarten sign in, children took five Wee Friend activities and sorted them in the order in which they happened. For example, children said they eat breakfast here before they sign in!

We read The Napping House in K/PREK1 group. Before we started reading, I asked how the story started. A friend responded, “The grandma is sleeping in the bed!”. I asked how the story ends and a friend shared, “There’s a rainbow!”—both were right! We also talked about a few specific events that occurred in the middle of the story. We checked our answers throughout the story and our group members did a FANTASTIC job at identifying the beginning, end, and middle parts of the book before reading it!

K.1.4: Identify and order events that take place in a sequence.

K.RL.2.2: With support, retell familiar stories, poems, and nursery rhymes, including key details.

Good Afternoon!

This week, one of the concepts we’re going to be talking about is calendars and clocks, specifically what we use them for. Kindergarteners had to write down what we use clocks and calendars for on their sign in activity.

Everyday in K/PREK1 group, we go over our calendar activity where we talk about the month, day of the week, date, and year. We also identify various holidays in each month as well as birthdays. We read, ‘A Child’s Calendar’ in group where each month was discusses as well as what the weather may look like in each month as well as holidays in each month. For the most part, that’s how children identify months; by important dates to them such as birthdays and holidays.

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

Happy Friday and last day of September.

Today is a bittersweet day for 2 reasons.  We say goodbye to our friend, Emma as they are moving to a new state.  We have so enjoyed having Emma for a little over a year in the Wee wee classroom, watching her grow and flourish in her development. We will miss you all and hope you keep in touch with us.

IMG_2243

We also say, ‘ see you across the bridge’ in the Pre-school classroom as one of our friends is moving up.  We will miss having you in our classroom, but know we will still get to see you outside everyday.

IMG_2038

Today we were busy building with the big wood blocks.  We lined them up and pushed them together to sit or stand on them.

IMG_2217IMG_2216IMG_2221IMG_2223IMG_2225

We also stood at the windows on the habi-trail to watch our grass being mowed.  When we couldn’t see him anymore, we moved to the window on the reading step to watch him do the side yard.

IMG_2238IMG_2237IMG_2236

We then all gathered in the front area to build and play with the trains and train tracks with Miss Tina.

IMG_2245IMG_2239IMG_2241

We then headed outside to ride bikes, work on our balance skills on the balance beam, ride the teeter totter and scoop and fill containers with our shovel in the sandbox.  Dax and Emma enjoyed doing their activity with their siblings.

Good Afternoon!

Kindergarteners got to choose one book from a small collection of books to work with for their sign in. They chose either The Gruffalo, Duck in the Truck, or Rainbow Fish. After they chose a book, they wrote down several characters in the story along with the setting and an event. A kindergartner enjoyed working with the book ‘Rainbow Fish’ so much that he asked to read it for K/PREK1 group.

K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g. characters, settings, or events).

IMG_7110IMG_7104

A still life art opportunity started off our morning at the art table! Miss Kim placed a gorgeous bouquet of flowers on the lazy susan. Children used oil pastels to draw the bouquet as well as talk about the colors they saw. They even helped research the flowers that were in the bouquet.

IMG_7490IMG_7492

IMG_7495IMG_7485

When we went outside, children quickly scattered throughout the yard. Some friends chose to ride the tricycles while others headed toward the sandbox or use the baby dolls in their play. Throughout the morning it warmed up but there’s been a nice fall crisp feeling to our morning outdoor experiences!

Good Afternoon!

This morning we were engaged in listening to Miss Bekah read many favorite books to us.  We all took turns choosing different books from the shelf for her to read, before looking at books independently.

IMG_2153IMG_2157IMG_2159IMG_2158

Friends then went their separate ways, to build with Duplos, to play in the cube and care for a baby doll and explore the wooden loose part manipulatives.

IMG_2160IMG_2161IMG_2171IMG_2169IMG_2164

We then headed into the kitchen to work our fine motor, hand-eye coordination and color recognition skills to stack the pegs together to make towers on our peg boards.

IMG_2175IMG_2178IMG_2177IMG_2176IMG_2180IMG_2181

Ben was full of smiles as he climbing up on the habi-trail and on the slide.

A few friends began their morning playing cooperatively with another friend.  Paige and Emma worked together with the balance and the colored beads to experiment with it to get it to balance.  Emily and another friends were busy having a birthday with a lot of conversation between them in the housekeeping area.
