Good Afternoon!

This morning the friends were looking at their reflection in the mirrors in a few areas of the classroom.  Paige made several silly faces while looking at her reflection.

We then engaged in many areas of the classroom.  We went down the habi-trail slide, played with baby dolls, looked at books, walked across the stepping stones to feel the different textures on the bottom of our feet and pretended to fill our spoon with water from the play kitchen faucet.

IMG_1808IMG_1810IMG_1807IMG_1824IMG_1819IMG_1813

We then headed outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and engage in  our favorite activities.

Good Afternoon!

Yesterday we focused on the fiction text genre. Today, we read, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ which Daniel shared, “I think it’s two different genres: fiction and fairytale!”. But, we all agreed that fairytale is the perfect fit for the book.

K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairytales, poems)

The welcome activity from today was a sorting activity. There were several cards that children had to sort and place into one of three categories: air, land, or sea. For example, James placed the a picture of a motorcycle in the ‘land’ category.

Happy Monday!

Food was the focus of the kindergarten sign in this morning. The three kindergarteners took food squares and sorted them into six categories: bread and grain, milk and dairy, meat and eggs, sweets, fruit, and vegetables. There were a couple that caused some apprehension but we eventually got them all sorted into the correct category!

K.DA.1: Identify, sort, and classify objects by size, number, and other attributes. Identify objects that do not belong to a particular group and explain the reasoning used.

One of our FAB’s for the week focuses on text genres and we dove right into it today! We talked about each of the four text genres before identifying the genre that fit the book we read today in K/PREK1 group. We read, ‘The Giving Tree’ by Shel Silverstein which is a favorite of ours! When we were done reading it, we talked as a group about what genre we thought the book would fit into. We finally decided on fiction because, “trees don’t talk!” and “trees can’t move their branches!”.

An art project was made available at the table this morning that involved glue and nature objects! Children used a small piece of paper and a combination of nature objects that they chose to make a nature material collage.

It was absolutely gorgeous this morning! Friends danced, balls were thrown, and bikes were ridden until the lunch bell went off. It was the perfect outside experience.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we engaged in a glue art activity with foam shapes.  We used a brush to spread the glue or squeezed the bottle with our hands to put the glue onto our papers.  We then added a variety of foam shapes to make our collage.

We then brought out our colorful dancing scarves to shake while we danced and listened to our favorite songs.

Good Afternoon!

This morning the baby dolls were a very popular choice for our friends as they began their play.  They were dressing them, doctoring them and snuggling them to put them to sleep.

IMG_1619IMG_1617IMG_1626IMG_1620IMG_1627IMG_1625

We then headed over to build with the Magna-Tiles.  Friends wanted to play peek-a-boo so they took the Little People and placed them inside of their building.  When they opened it up, they said, Peek-a-boo to the person they found inside.  Emily also made an ice cream cone with her Magna-Tiles and pretended to eat it.

IMG_1629IMG_1630IMG_1638IMG_1635IMG_1642

We then headed into the kitchen to draw with markers in our journal binders with Miss Tina.

IMG_1644IMG_1643IMG_1647IMG_1645IMG_1648

The friends asked Miss Bekah for the See The Bunnies Sleeping song.  We acted out the animals; bears, bunnies, frogs and flamingos while singing the song.  We then played Ring-around-the Rosie with a friend.

IMG_1655IMG_1654IMG_1652IMG_1650

We then headed outside to enjoy the sunshine and cool, refreshing weather.

Good Afternoon!

Each kindergarten boy got to pick a book from the following choices: ‘Caps For Sale’, ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’, and ‘The Story of Ferdinand’. They worked with one specific book as well as three specific illustrations in that book. For each illustration, I gave them options of authors words that matched the illustration. They had to figure out if the authors words and illustrations matched!

K.RL.4.1: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear.

IMG_6547IMG_6548(1)

For K/PREK1, we read ‘The Story of Ferdinand’. We filled in our chart after we were done reading it and talked about who did what job in the creation of this story.

Afterwards, we identified the shapes on the paper. Once children identified the shape, they told me how many sides the shape had as well as how many vertices. After the square, James raised his hand and shared, “The numbers are the same for each shape!”. I asked the group if they thought this trend would continue for the rest of the shapes and they all said yes! Sure enough, we found out that the number of sides and the number of vertices matched for each shape!

K.RL.3.2: Define the role of the author and illustrator of a story in telling the story.

K.G.2: Compare shapes using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, and parts (e.g., number of sides, length of sides, and vertices).

IMG_6580IMG_6579(1)

Our welcome activity was a fine motor activity in which children used metal tongs to place colorful puff balls onto a wooden rainbow. Some children placed the puff balls sporadically onto the rainbow while others sorted by color. Two three year old’s were doing this activity together and one chose to do each arch with a certain color. He shared how he did this with his peer who was eager to try out his way of doing it.
