Good Afternoon!

This morning was full of water and soap bubbles as we washed our toys from the front area of the classroom!  We used sponges and toothbrushes to get them clean.  While we washed the Duplos, we worked on our color recognition skills to identify the different colors we were cleaning.

During outside time, a few friends were busy drawing with chalk.  They were working on their tracing skills to trace a baby doll or have an older friend trace their body on the sidewalk.

Other friends were busy playing with trucks in the rocks inside the climbing house or walking their baby doll down the rock path.

Good Afternoon!

For kindergarten sign in, our three kindergarteners played a round of ‘Community Helper Bingo’!

I read a description and they had to look at on their board to see if they had that specific community helper. They did fantastic at helping one another out with clues that were a little more challenging.

The six K/PREK1 children are thriving during their daily journal experience. They’ve been working on their letter recognition as well as letter sounds, depending on readiness, and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to have this time to journal each day.

IMG_5422IMG_5427IMG_5420

The welcome activity involved wooden circles and felt bunnies. Some children chose to sort the materials while others placed them on top of one another, creating a one to one correspondence learning experience.

IMG_5308IMG_5295IMG_5294

When we went outside, friends took turns exploring a new game that Miss Tami brought in! Anywhere from two to four kids played at a time. They each held a frisbee and had to catch a koosh ball with the frisbee that a friend threw to them. It required quite a lot of concentration!

Good Afternoon!

This morning we were busy in the the housekeeping area trying on dress-up hats and shoes and picking out a purse to go on a trip.

IMG_0888IMG_0886IMG_0889IMG_0892

Friends were interested in playing instruments, so the drums were brought down for something different to play.  Miss Bekah talked to us and showed us how to make fast and slow beats with our hands on them.  We then used our hands to make fast and slow beats.

IMG_0899IMG_0903IMG_0904

Dax was interested in the xylophone on the wall.  He used his mallet to tap on the bars to hear the different sounds each one made.

IMG_0898

We then headed over to the block area to build with Magna-Tiles and Duplos.

IMG_0909IMG_0910IMG_0905IMG_0908IMG_0907

While music was playing in the background, the song See The Bunnies Sleeping? came on.  Miss Bekah then did her version of the song for us to act out.

IMG_0922IMG_0923

We then headed outside to engage in our favorite activities.  What a busy, fun-filled day!

Good Afternoon!

In K/PREK1 group today, we read, ‘Albert The Fix-It Man’. Albert had so many talents and could fix almost anything! He had several tools that he used to do his jobs.

Afterwards, we continued our discussion from yesterday about community helpers. I had six job descriptions taped up onto the chalkboard. I read one at a time and children had to work together to see what job matched that job description. I read the first description which was, “I make things out of wood. I use a hammer, saw, nails, and other tools to do my job.” Then, I read each job title and as a group, they talked about what job title fit the description. ‘Carpenter’ was the only job title friends were unsure about. Every other job title they could identify!

James has been very interested in building a marble track like we have in the past. He took it upon himself to see how his peers felt about this. He grabbed a clipboard, a piece of paper, and a pencil. He went around asking each peer if they wanted to build a marble track. For yes’s, he made a tally mark while no’s were displayed as X’s. Throughout the whole process, the results were fairly even!

On our agenda this week: build a marble track!

IMG_5167IMG_5175

The balls along with the hoop were made available as soon as we went outside this morning. Maggie and Imogen tried their hardest to make baskets and they found that the more they worked at it, the easier it got! Hannah made her first basket and came running to the top of the yard shouting, “I made my basket!!”

Good Afternoon!

This week, we’ll be focusing on community helpers in K/PREK1 group. After reading, ‘Strictly No Elephants’, I brought up the term ‘community helper’ and everyone was quite unsure of what that meant. So, we identified what the word ‘community’ meant first.

Afterwards, we talked about ten community helpers that we run into in our daily lives. Each helpers name was written on the board and we worked together to come up with a way that they help us and our community. A few friends shared personal stories associated with a specific community helper. James, who has a dog at home, talked specifically about the importance of a veterinarian because his dog hurt her leg so she’ll need surgery.

Throughout the week, we’ll identify more helpers that make up our community.

Social Studies: K.2.1 Give examples of people who are community helpers (inside the classroom and outside the classroom) and describe how they help us.

Our PREK2 friends have been enjoying a daily, structured journal time. This allows them to work on the letters of their name and putting words to their drawing with the help of Miss Kim!

IMG_5153(1)IMG_5152(1)IMG_5155

We started our yearly art project that we’ll display in the reading area! We used two complimentary colors, teal and a burnt orange, along with white. There were a couple steps to this project.

The first step was to place several dots of each color around the canvas. Some friends chose to spread out the paint dots while others chose to put the dots closely together. Rowan chose to put the paint dots on top of each other!

IMG_4971IMG_4975IMG_5066

Once the dots were placed on the canvas, children took a squeegee and ran the colors together. Each friend took the squeegee and placed it at the top of the canvas and pulled the squeegee towards them and the bottle of their canvas. This allowed the colors to run together and made every single canvas unique based on the amount of dots and how the squeegee was used. We can’t wait to get them hung in the reading area!

Good Afternoon!

This morning friends were busy building with the big wood blocks. Emily shared with Miss Bekah, “this is my bed.”

IMG_0817IMG_0819IMG_0822IMG_0820

Friends then sat on the reading step to enjoy looking at a book.  Miss Tina read books to several friends while another friend read the Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? book to a couple of friends by the animal she saw on the page and her familiarity of how the story goes.

IMG_0828IMG_0827IMG_0824

We then headed into the kitchen to paint with Puffy Paint;  which consists of shaving cream, glue and watercolors.  We used blue, red and yellow watercolors and added a little glitter glue that were the same colors to each of them.  Instead of using paper, we painted on cardboard to experience a different surface. The colors sure puffed out and the glitter sparkled as our paintings dried.

IMG_0830IMG_0837IMG_0832IMG_0835IMG_0840

We then headed outside to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.  We rode bikes and rolled balls down the hill, teeter-tottered with a friend, watched a roly-poly crawl on the sidewalk and kicked a ball across the grass.

Good Afternoon!

The friends were engaged with the teddy bears this morning.  The friends snuggled and carried them around the classroom.   A friend then requested to listen to the Bear Hunt song. We used our bears to dance with while acting out the motions.

.IMG_0777IMG_0778IMG_0779IMG_0781

We then moved to different areas of the classroom with a friend or two.  We built with the Inter- Star connectors, asked a teacher to read books to us or crawled in the cube to lay on a pillow.

IMG_0786IMG_0785IMG_0783IMG_0788IMG_0789

We then headed outside to enjoy our Wee Sprout, go down the slide with a baby doll, sit on a chair and play with a construction truck in the climbing house and gathered at the gate to wait for the trash truck to drive by.
