Good Afternoon!

We began our morning playing with our baby dolls.  We were holding them, feeding them a bottle or giving them a check up.

IMG_1520IMG_1513IMG_1512IMG_1522

We then headed into the kitchen to paint at the easel.  Even though, the season of Fall is a few weeks away, we used the Fall colors, green, orange, red and yellow to create our beautiful paintings.

IMG_1534IMG_1539IMG_1552IMG_1553IMG_1557IMG_1561

Ben enjoyed working his fine motor skills to wiggle the animals circles on the Zany Zoo activity box, listened to Miss Tina read him a story and played with the animals and the fabric play food.

IMG_1544IMG_1523IMG_1521IMG_1550

We then were able to get outside to play with trucks, make food in the play kitchen and pull ourselves up to stand at the shelf and look into the little house.

Good Afternoon!

This week is K/PREK1 group, one of our FAB’s focuses on identifying the role of authors and illustrators in writing stories. Throughout the week, we’ll add the story that we read for group to our chart and document the title, author, and illustrator of each story.

As children were rolling up their mats, I asked each child to share a shape that matched the criteria that I asked for. For example, I asked Daniel to share a shape that has four sides. He thought about it and shared, “Diamond!”

K.RL.3.2: Define the role of the author and illustrator of a story in telling the story.

Good Afternoon!

This morning friends were engaged with the play food.  Miss Bekah introduced a new song to us titled, Fruit Salad by the Wiggles.  We listened to the song while playing with our fruits and vegetables.  Miss Bekah then made a fruit salad with 2 of the fruits from the song for us to enjoy with our lunch.

IMG_1410IMG_1413IMG_1415IMG_1414

We then went into the kitchen to enjoy a sensory experience with playdough.  We used some playdough scissors and craft sticks to cut our playdough into small pieces, rolling pins to make it flat and cookie cutters to make it into shapes.  We were given a bowl so some of us could make our own fruit salad.

Good Afternoon!

Our three kindergarteners drew lines from shapes to the matching shape name. There were a few shapes that we needed to review such as hexagon and octagon but they had confidence when identifying most of the shapes on their sign in!

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

IMG_6790IMG_6785

After reading, ‘The Color Monster’ during K/PREK1 group, I taped one shape onto the piece of paper at a time and children identified the shape. After I taped the circle onto the board and children identified it, I asked them to look around the classroom environment to see if they could find a circle. We did this with each shape and if we couldn’t find something in our view, we talked about things in our life. For example, a stop sign if the shape of an octagon.

When we talked about hexagon and octagon, I shared that ‘hex’ means 6 and ‘oct’ means 8 which refers to the number of sides of the shape. I wrote the number underneath the shapes and a friend asked, “Can we do that for every shape?”

So, we went back through the shapes and wrote down how many sides each shape has!

K.4.1: Identify and describe geometric objects: circle, triangle, square, rectangle, diamond, trapezoid, hexagon, octagon, parallelogram, sphere, and cube.

Several children used the welcome activity in different ways. Rowan decided to take the gems and place them around the perimeter of each shape. Maggie put one gem at each vertex of the shapes that were in front of her. Adrian took the gems and filled in the area of each shape. Even though they were unaware, they were exploring various mathematical ideas such as vertices, area, and perimeter!

Good Afternoon!

This morning we went into the kitchen to work on puzzles.  The puzzles that were chosen had us work on our matching skills, matching our piece with the picture underneath.  We also had to match animal body prints.

IMG_1381IMG_1383IMG_1385IMG_1386IMG_1384

While the older friends were engaged with puzzles, Ben and Eliza enjoyed the colored scarves.  They were shaking them and putting them up in front of their faces to look through.

IMG_1387IMG_1389IMG_1390IMG_1392

We then headed outside to play!

Good Afternoon!

After reading Dr. Seuss’ ABC for K/PREK1 group, we gathered in a circle where children worked on their rhyming word comprehension. Each child was given one word puzzle piece. Daniel, for example, was given the word ‘sub’. I gave him several different tile choices that I had in my hand and he had to tell me which word rhymed with sub, which ended up being ‘tub’!

K.RF.3.1: Identify and produce rhyming words.

IMG_6154IMG_6150IMG_6153

The welcome activity attracted several children today. It was an open ended activity that involved two manipulatives: wooden circle tiles and felt teddy bears.

A few children chose to display these manipulatives by showing off their one to one correspondence skills by placing one bear onto one tile. Others chose to strategically place them around their wooden tray.

IMG_6059IMG_6062IMG_6058

A few of our older boys asked to do the wood working bench this morning. The wood working bench is an activity that children four years or older can partake in. It requires children to take their own safety measures as well as ever-growing hand eye coordination.
