Happy Monday!

The first thing I want to do is send out a HUGE thank you to Tami’s husband, Charles, and her son, Chase, for their amazing work this weekend in our backyard space ALONG with three of our awesome dads: Mark, Dan, and Kyle were a gigantic help. They essentially created a brand new garden space for us and spruced up the yard, along with a few other projects. We (and the kids!) appreciate it so much!

Mack and Evie wrote down a few items that animals and plants need to survive for their kindergarten sign in.

IMG_5477

In K/PREK1 group, we transferred that information to a Venn Diagram with the help of our older preschoolers. The first thing they did was come up with a few items that are similar between plants and animals (water and food!).

Science: K.4.1 Observe plants and animals, describing how they are alike and how they are different.

IMG_5537IMG_5540

In PREK2 group, they also worked with a Venn Diagram as they compared the physical characteristics of plants and animals.

We headed outside this morning to check out the new additions to the backyard! Children were thrilled to explore the new white sand at the top of the sandbox. We noticed right away that there were two new teeter totters in the backyard! They sure got broken in this morning Smile.

Happy Friday!

**Wee Friends will be closed next Friday, April 15 for Good Friday. Thank you!**

We’ve been talking about plants and animals all week long. Today for kindergarten sign in, we focused on food that we eat and how they are grown. Mack and Evie took pictures of eight different foods and sorted them into three groups: grown on a tree, on a vine, or in the roots. Some of the food that they sorted were oranges, apples, strawberries, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, and peaches.

Science: K.4.1 Give examples of plants and animals.

IMG_5408IMG_5409

We read, ‘Flower Garden’ in K/PREK1 group. This led into a web that we started focusing on different flower names. Evie and Mack were able to name flowers such as sunflower, poppy, tulip, rose, and snowdrop (impressive, right?!).

Mack took this flower interest and transferred it to his journal where he drew his own flowers! Evie added in some animals but drawing a pig family! We love journal time!

Science: K.4.1 Give examples of plants and animals.

IMG_5466IMG_5465

The plants in the science area have been taking OFF. They are growing so quickly! We can notice a substantial difference from morning to afternoon so Miss Annastecia got out a ruler. With the help of a few friends, they measure a few different plants and each day, we’ll measure the plants to see how much they’ve grown. If you’d like to look at the data we’ve collected, our graph is on the back of the front door.

We hope you have a fun, goofy weekend full of smiles and laughs. Here’s a few pictures to start your weekend off right!

               HAPPY FRIDAY

“MAY YOUR FRIDAY BE BEAUTIFUL,

MAY YOUR WEEKEND BE JOYFUL,

AND MAY ALL YOUR MOMENTS

                BE WONDERFUL.”

Yesterday two new fun and exciting activities were added into our classroom for a couple of days. Miss Tami bought us two new teeter-totters that will be placed outdoors for next weeks enjoyment. However, we rocked on them inside until they go outdoors over the weekend. We also had tons of fun with the boxes that the teeter-totters came in. We crawled in and out of them as well as colored all over the boxes with markers. Smile

Good Afternoon!

Evie and Mack extended their sign in from yesterday that asked them to define herbivore, carnivore, and omnivore.

Today, they had to write an example of each!

Science: K.4.1 Give examples of plants and animals.

IMG_5330

I hadn’t chosen a book yet for K/PREK1 group time so later in the morning, I asked Mack if he’d like to choose a book for me. He took his time looking in the reading area and runs up to me and says, “This one! It goes with the theme for the week with plant eaters and meat eaters!”. He brought me the book, ‘The Umbrella’ by Jan Brett. What a great selection!

IMG_4776IMG_5381

In PREK2, James and Rowan sorted pictures into two groups: animals and plants!

IMG_5386IMG_5388IMG_5383

Friends gathered around the circle this morning to investigate the pea gravel. They tried different types of pea gravel to see whether or not they could write on the sidewalk. After trying several kinds, they came to the conclusion that the white pea gravel did not transfer onto the sidewalk!

Good Afternoon.

Today, we engaged in dancing to music while manipulating our colorful scarves. We sway them through the air, we look through them to see what can be seen, and we simply just have fun with them.

Good Afternoon.

We started our day off by reading stories. We happily listened to books chosen by our friends off of the book shelf, then a friend asked if we could read teacher stories. One of the books I chose fit our day perfectly. It’s Raining It’s Pouring is one of our favorites even if it’s not raining outside.

IMG_4461IMG_4463

We then had some water play to keep with our “rainy day” theme. Water, shaving cream and blue food coloring were all added to our bins and we washed some of our toys from around the classroom.

IMG_4474IMG_4470

IMG_4464IMG_4467

Then a few us looked out of our side window to try and see the tow truck loading up Miss Bekah’s car We could see his flashing lights.

Good Afternoon!

**Our phone that we use to take pictures with was out of commission today. We sincerely apologize and hope to be back to our regular scheduled programming tomorrow!

_____________________________________________________________________

As for today, several children helped Miss Kim make homemade banana muffins for our afternoon snack! Children love being in the kitchen helping and asking questions.

IMG_5313IMG_5315

In K/PREK1, Mack and Evie sorted animals onto the Venn Diagram. We read two non fiction stories before tackling the activity. One of the short stories was about horses while the other one focused on sharks!

They sorted the animals based on what they eat for food. We talked about the terms ‘herbivore’, ‘carnivore’, and ‘omnivore’ before we sorted the animals.

Science: K.4.1 Give examples of plants and animals.

IMG_4759IMG_4763IMG_4765

The rest of our morning revolved around a few activities that captured our friends attention.

The first activity focused on chains. Children worked together to create a chain that almost stretched the length of the house! It was equally has challenging taking about the chain before lunchtime!

Friends gathered in the habitrail area to explore catapults again. They used the information they learned yesterday to change up their strategy a little bit so that the bean bags flew in the direction they were wanting.

And of course, a cooking experience captivated our friends as they helped measure ingredients for our banana muffins. We love making wholesome, healthy food with our class!

Breakfast– Whole grain oatmeal with cinnamon and banana.

Lunch– Farm fresh scrambled eggs with whole wheat tortilla, fresh apples/pineapple, and fresh cucumber/pepper.

PM snack– Homemade banana muffins and applesauce.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumber.

Have a wonderful night.

Good Afternoon!

Our two kindergarteners drew their own plant and identified the parts of it. Each plant was extremely unique and they both took their time drawing it.

Science: K.4.1 Give examples of plants and animals.

IMG_5288IMG_5281

We read, ‘What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?’ in K/PREK1 group. Mack and Evie tried to identify each animal body part of several animals. On each page, a body part was the focus (eyes, tail, ears, etc.).

When the story was done, Mack and Evie sorted animals based on their habitats. They talked about why habitats are so important for animals. “An elephant couldn’t live in a house like a pet because there’s not enough space!”

Science: K.4.1 Give examples of plants and animals.

IMG_4718IMG_4719IMG_4730

A few of our friends were interested in catapults this morning so they used materials in habitrail to build their own catapults!

They took wooden boards and bean bags plus the force of their feet to catapult the bean bags into the air.

Friends talked about the trajectory of the bean bags, what direction to place the boards, and how hard to step/jump on the board.

Breakfast– Kix and fresh strawberries.

Lunch– Homemade grilled cheese on whole wheat bread, fresh mango, and fresh cucumber/carrots.

PM snack– Whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and string cheese.

Wee Sprout– Fresh cucumber/carrots.

Have a lovely night.

Good Afternoon.

Today we were happily engaged in painting with blue paint mixed with a small amount of glue and silver glitter specks. After your child’s creations have had time to dry, teachers will cut them into small raindrops to place on our windows with our flowers…. as April showers bring may flowers. Smile

Some of our younger friends LOVE to climb and slide down our soft star climber. We are working diligently on going one way and taking turns so that no one gets hurt. Friends are doing a great job!

IMG_4402IMG_4397

IMG_4398IMG_4400

During outdoor play, one of our older friends found many logs back by the play house. She bravely (as some were heavy) moved some of them to make a “Campfire.”
