Happy Monday!

One of our FAB’s this week focuses on addition problems within 10. We read three word problems together and to start, Evie and Mack wrote the two numbers that were identified in the word problem. They added the two numbers together and wrote the total after the equal sign!

K.CA.1-2: Solve real world problems, objects, or drawings that involve addition and subtraction within 10. Demonstrate the equation (e.g., 5=3+2 and 5=4+1)

IMG_4829IMG_4831

An art activity was made available this morning. Using materials like puff balls, glitter glue, pinecones, tissue paper, yarn, and paint, children made abstract fairies to display in the classroom!

Happy FriYAY!

**Wee Friends will be closed on Friday, April 15th for Good Friday.

Evie and Mack used two dice for their sign in. They rolled both dice, wrote the numbers on the spaces and added them together. They wrote the total after the equal sign. They did this five times!

IMG_4723IMG_4727

After reading, ‘The Three Little Pigs’ in K/PREK1 group, we used our ten fingers to solve a few math problems. The first problem was 7 + _____ = 10. We all put up our fingers and made seven fingers available. We looked to see how many fingers were hiding and after counting, friends yelled, “It’s three!”

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number for any number from 1 to 9 (e.g., by using objects or drawings), and record the answer with a drawing or an equation.

IMG_4797

The light table was made available in the science area while playdough took up the art table. Both spaces were busy throughout the morning before heading outside. Friends got down a few different manipulatives to use at the light table!

IMG_4749IMG_4730IMG_4753

Even though it was a little chilly this morning, children still had a terrific time playing several rounds of Simon Says! It’s one of our favorite games to play outside.

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

During our play today a friend noticed something tucked away by the two swings and asked what it was. So I happily got it down for her to see. It was the sheer curtain for us to walk through.  We all loved walking and calmly running through it. We could even play peek-a- boo with our friends and teachers. Smile

IMG_4058IMG_4045

We engaged in a fun art activity to brighten the classroom windows with flowers. We took our pre-cut paper plate circles and used dot paint markers to decorate them. You can see them all through the environment.

Good Afternoon!

For kindergarten sign in, Evie and Mack had to insert an action verb into five different sentences. For example, the first sentence said, “I can _________ inside the classroom.”

Mack chose to write ‘walk’ while Evie chose to write ‘play’! There were a few different action verbs that worked for each sentence.

K.W.6. 1b: Verbs- Writing sentences that include verbs.

IMG_4674

Yesterday, each K/PREK1 group member came up with an action verb that we wrote on our web.

Today, children took their action verb and created a sentence that had the verb in it. As I wrote the sentence, we underlined the verb that they had chosen yesterday!

Good Afternoon. I hope you are all having a wonderful day! Smile

Today, while I was reading books one of my friends ripped off one of the sides of the binding. It was explained that we can’t rip our books because if we keep continue a teacher will have to try and fix the book or unfortunately have to throw it away.

So, that led Miss Annastecia into a great idea. She went next door to the preschool classroom and got some old newspaper for friends to rip and shred and then throw away! It was a HUGE success. Friends LOVED it!

Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘The Color Monster’ in K/PREK1 group. Before we got to a specific color, friends shared what was coming up next! They really knew the layout of the story.

We started a two part activity in group. We had  a conversation about verbs, specifically action verbs. I wrote down my example, which was walk, before each friend had the opportunity to share their action verb!

Tomorrow, we will create sentences using these verbs!

K.W.6. 1b: Verbs- Writing sentences that include verbs.

IMG_4526 (1)

In PREK2 group, each friend got the chance to roll two dice. They added up the dice and figured out the total. When they arrived at the total, they found the number on a circle and flipped it over!

IMG_4620

Miss Annastecia set up an art activity this morning that revolved around, ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ written by Eric Carle. Before diving into the activity, she shared with the kids at the table that Eric Carle uses tissue paper for his illustrations in his books.

Friends chose an illustration from the book and created their own tissue paper creation! A few friends chose the butterfly and caterpillar while others chose a specific fruit.

IMG_4549IMG_4548IMG_4556

We saw a lot of pairs working together this morning! The activities that we observed ranged from ka-noodle, challenging puzzles (60 and 64 pieces), and war using a deck of cards.

IMG_4542IMG_4537

Children gathered in the garden area to watch Miss Annastecia till the vegetable bed using a rake. As kids asked questions about general gardening, Evie was quick to answer them! She’s pretty knowledge about gardening! She also pitched in a little bit!

IMG_4590IMG_4584

Needless to say, we got a little dirty this morning!

Happy Wednesday!

We had a red crew today. Our friend, Paige noticed that she and other friends had on the same color shirts. Noticing this is a great way for friends to understand and know their colors as well as understand and see that there are different shades of that specific color. Great eye-spying Paige! Smile

We were all quickly cleaning up our toys in the main part of the classroom so that we could get our hands into some shaving cream. The cream was placed right onto the table so that we could spread it all over. Cars and trucks along with gold glitter were added in for more shaving cream fun.

Good Afternoon!

For kindergarten sign in, Mack and Evie had to identify the number that came before and after a specific number. The FAB focuses on numbers up to 20 but Mack and Evie’s understanding of these numbers is concrete so we started focusing on numbers higher than 20.

There were five numbers that were written down for their sign in and they had to write numbers in the blank spaces. The first problem was:

_____ 20 ______

They worked on number formation as well as number identification.

K.NS.3: Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 20.

IMG_4414IMG_4419

We read, ‘The Thankful Book’ in K/PREK1 group which is a book from our MACK collection!

Children used two dice to make their own addition problem. They rolled both dice at the same time. They identified the number of each die they rolled and added them together. A few friends chose to do the addition problem in their head while others chose to count the white dots on the dice. Daniel chose to use puff ball manipulatives to figure out the total of his equation.

K.CA.4: Find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number for any number from 1 to 9 (e.g., by using objects or drawings), and record the answer with a drawing or an equation.

IMG_4517IMG_4511IMG_4515

In PREK2, children were asked to identify a certain number. Once they found it on the white board, they circled it with a marker!

Good Afternoon.

This morning we happily engaged in the rice and black bird seed sensory table. We love the colorful bowls to pour the mixture into once we scoop it up from either a cup or a serving spoon. We talked about who could and could not eat this mixture. One of our older friends said, “this is yucky if we eat it,”

IMG_3795IMG_3797IMG_3799

We also enjoyed having a dance party. These parties are the best and we never pass up a chance to dance and boogie our bodies away. Smile

IMG_3798

We then headed outdoors. We were little laid back with our play at first, but then we got down and dirty in our play. When the preschool class came out we were even happier. We love the big kids and love to play with them.
