Happy Monday!

We read, ‘Bunny’s Book Club’ in K/PREK1 which is a book from Dolly Parton’s book club so several friends in group shared that they had the book at home!

After reading the story, we read four words on the chalkboard. We talked about ‘word families’ and what happens when we change the first letter on a word. We worked together to come up with two rhyming words.

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

In PREK2 group, children worked on addition up to 10. Miss Kim put a specific number of shapes in each circle and children had to add the shapes together!

IMG_4376IMG_4379IMG_4386

Miss Kim brought in some dried flowers from her house for a nature collage project! Children had the opportunity to come to the art table to create their own collage using nature items and contact paper. Friends loved searching through the collection of items to see what was available.

Then we were able to get outdoors this morning and enjoy ourselves before the rain came in. The preschool teachers brought out the scooters and some of really enjoyed those. We can work on utilizing our gross motor skills by pushing ourselves with our feet around the circle path.

Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘Same, Same, But Different’ in K/PREK1.  It’s a book from our MACK collection. The book revolves around two boys who live in completely different parts of the world. While they are very different, there are similarities to how they live their life, what they eat, and the things that surround them. Children loved comparing and contrasting the two main characters throughout the story.

Afterwards, each child chose one notecard out of my hand. We read the notecards aloud. I read one sentence at a time where the noun was missing. They used context clues in the sentence to see who’s word fit in the blank. They each got the opportunity to come to the board and tape their word into the missing space.

K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns– Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g., dog/dogs, cat/cats).

IMG_4453IMG_4455IMG_4459

When the breakfast table was cleaned off, the art table QUICKLY became full (it’s quite the transition period!). Evie focused intently as she used a sketch book to aid in her drawings. Crayons and markers covered our papers that made their way into children’s cubbies! The class was very productive today!

IMG_4141IMG_4140IMG_4144

Millie asked to paint at the art easel and James quickly joined her. They have been loving the water color option at the easel (as opposed to tempera!).

IMG_4150IMG_4145IMG_4155

A few friends camped out at the island where they explored various games. James attempted ka-noodle for the first time today while Daniel asked Rowan if she’d want to play war which is one of our favorite card games.

IMG_4169IMG_4170

We have gotten spoiled this week with the weather considering it’s only mid March! By the end of our morning outside time, friends were taking off their jackets—it was so nice!

Happy Wednesday! It is GORGEOUS outside today!!!!

Paige and a friend wanted to be cozy in a chair, so they both decided to share it while feeding their babies.

IMG_3493IMG_3496

We had a great time painting this morning with fun colors. Some of us also wanted to use our hands and not just our paint brushes.

IMG_3519IMG_3535

IMG_3524IMG_3540

We then headed outside and had a great time playing and enjoying the day. We quickly noticed a worker man at our house. It was the roofing man to fix a part of the WWF classroom roof. We were all pretty curios and interested to see what he was doing, so we happily watched him and heard the loud sounds he was making. What an exciting outside time Smile

Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘Strictly No Elephants’ in K/PREK1 which is a book from our MACK collection! It’s one of our favorites because it opens our imagination and mind to the possibility of having unique animals as pets!

When we were done reading, each friend got a sentence to complete. I read their sentence aloud with two different words: a singular noun and a plural noun. They used the text around their word to determine whether or not the noun should be singular or plural.

K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns– Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g., dog/dogs, cat/cats).

In PREK2, children worked together to fill in the missing spaces with the correct number!

We love puzzles. We love wooden puzzles. We love foam puzzles. We love challenging 48 piece puzzles. There are so many benefits to puzzles—the most obvious being fine motor skills. Below, I’ve attached two articles.

The first article is a short list of things to do at home (and school!) to help strengthen your child’s fine motor skills!

https://www.naeyc.org/our-work/families/help-your-child-build-fine-motor-skills

The second article is a Teacher Tom blogpost about puzzles. In this blogpost, he says, “I like sitting with children as they sort through puzzles. For one thing, it’s a great exercise in non-intervention. As children turn pieces around and around trying to find the piece that fits, it can take every ounce of willpower to restrain myself from offering unsolicited advice. For another, even in a busy classroom, a child bent over a puzzle is a study in focus, their thoughts revealing themselves in the movements of their little fingers as they study shape and pattern, as they seek out the perfect fit. For most children, it’s a silent, solo activity, although they might team up with friends, talking their way through a process.”
