Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘I Want To Be A Doctor’ in K/PREK1 group. This week, we’ll be talking about the various jobs that people can do and the tools they need to do those jobs.

Once our story was done, we made a web filled with jobs. Each child got to share one job that they wanted on the web and then we went into an open conversation about jobs that ended up completely filling our web!

Tomorrow, we’ll take the jobs that we came up with and take our conversation one step further by talking about the tools needed to do those jobs.

Social Studies: K.4.2 Identify and describe different kinds of jobs that people do and the tools they use.

In PREK2 group, Miss Kim read, ‘Rosie Revere Engineer’. They talked about what an engineer does and the tools they need to do their job!

Friends had the opportunity to come to the art table and start a special still life painting of a flower bouquet! There was a three step process that children had to go through: drawing with a pencil, tracing with a sharpie marker, and finally painting with water colors.

Good Afternoon and Happy May!!!

PLEASE NOTE: WEE FRIENDS WILL BE CLOSED MONDAY, MAY 30TH IN OBSERVANCE OF MEMORIAL DAY.

Today we had fun reading stories to one another and painting a special project!

One of our older friends enjoyed being a book leader. She gathered books off of the book shelf, sat in the rocking chair and called over other friends and handed them their book to red.

During outside play, another one of our older friends used her balancing and bravery skills to get across one of the obstacle boards to reach the other. She was very cautious and took her time. She was successful and extremely proud of herself. Smile

Good Afternoon!

After reading, ‘Hedgie’s Surprise!’ by Jan Brett in K/PREK1 group, we filled in three different webs. We went through the whole group and each friend got to choose which web they wanted to add to: animals that fly, animals that hop, or animals that run. When they chose a web, they said aloud an animal that fit into that web.

We talked about how animals move in different ways which lead into the completion of our webs!

Science: K.3.2 Investigate that things move in different ways, such as fast, slow, etc.

IMG_5283

Each friend in PREK2 group got to choose a car that they used to test out the wooden board that was used as a ramp. They pushed the car down the ramp and measured how long it went.

Miss Kim added friction to the board by placing crinkle packaging paper on the board to see if that would affect the length that the cars travelled.

IMG_6822IMG_6820IMG_6809

Materials were placed in the habitrail area for exploration earlier this morning. Children have been interested in ramps and tracks so they used the wooden tubes to create their own track. Once the track was complete, they put a marble down the start of the track to see if it would end up in the wicker basket!

This child driven activity worked on problem solving, cooperation, and trial and error.

Our large boxes and tunnel play had everyone excited. We LOVE climbing in and out of both activities. . WE really get our bodies moving.

Good Afternoon!

Today two of our older friends were standing/knneling at the habi-trail windows happily having a nice conversation, while looking out to see all the beauty of what the outside brings us.   Laughing, and smiling faces were shining through!

IMG_5360IMG_5361

We engaged in an experimental art activity today! We colored white pieces of paper with markers and then gently put water on top of our drawings to see what would happen to our markings. We found that it made the colors spread across the paper and that it made the colors look cloudy!

Good Afternoon!

After we read ‘Great Day For Up!’ by Dr. Seuss, we focused on the two words ‘push’ and ‘pull’. Children in K/PREK1 group worked together to define both of the words which I wrote under the notecard.

After we defined both words, we sorted many activities into one of the two categories. The first activity we had to sort was ‘move furniture’. Children thought about it for a few seconds and eventually said to put it in the ‘push’ category! Once we sorted all of the activities, they counted how many cards were in each category. It’s one of our favorite things to do in group; count the groups or categories to see which one is in the lead!

Science: K.3.2 Investigate that things move in different ways, such as fast, slow, etc.

IMG_6608

In PREK2, children worked together to put animals in order from fastest to slowest (picture on the left). Miss Kim revealed how fast animals do move and the correct order. They also talked about how animals move differently such as run, fly, etc.

IMG_6615IMG_6616

A sensory activity was made available at the art table. Children loved exploring shaving cream and running their fingers and hands along the tray. A few small animals were placed on the tray so that children could wash them. A couple kids decided to write their names in the shaving cream too!
