Good Afternoon!

**Wee Friends will be closed Monday, December 20 through Friday, December 31.

We just finished up our 12 week FAB cycle last week. For the next two weeks, we’ll be revisiting a few FAB’s that we’ve worked on these last 12 weeks.

Today, it was all about syllables!

Mack and Evie used three different colors to identify whether a word was a one, two, or three syllable word. They used both methods to count syllables.

We continued this topic into K/PREK1 group. After reading, ‘Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site’, we read several words that were in the book. Children worked together to figure out what category each word went into. Friends did a great job at keeping track how many words were in each group. I heard things like, “Now the 2 and 3 group each have the same number!”

Happy Friday!

We added a new dimension into our magnatile play: bells!

Children quickly found out that the bells were magnetic and stuck to all of the magnatiles. Our imaginations were on full drive as friends were deciding how to use the bells in their magnatile creation.

There were some very unique structures!

Happy Friday! I hope you all had a great week.

IF ANY FAMILIES HAVE PUZZLES THAT YOU ARE LOOKING TO DONATE, WWF WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THEM! THANK YOU.

Unfortunately, we said goodbye to our student teacher Anna today! We really liked her and enjoyed her spending time with us. She is going to make a wonderful teacher.

While the smaller friends played in the main area of the classroom, our two year old friends were excited about engaging in puzzles. They’re favorite puzzles right now are the larger letter ones.

Katherine thought puzzles looked like fun, so she too joined in the puzzle fun and did some that were age appropriate for her level of learning.

Good Afternoon!

We read, ‘Gracie’s Night’ in K/PREK1 group today. It talks about Hanukah and a few traditions that are prevalent during Hanukah.

As friends were rolling up their mats, they each shared a tradition that their family does during the holiday season. A few of the answers were:

“Putting up the Christmas tree together.”

“Opening gifts together.”

“My manga (grandma) sleeps over on Christmas Eve.”

Everyone’s answers were different but equally unique and special!

Social Studies Holiday Objectives: Children will see their family’s approach to holidays honored and will become aware of and be comfortable with the reality that people happily celebrate different holidays or celebrate the same holiday in different ways.

In PREK2 group, children looked at a big map! They identified places in the United States that have unique aspects such as forests, cities, rivers, oceans, and islands.

DSCN6464DSCN6460DSCN6461

We had a wonderful morning!

Some children chose to help wrap up our cardboard trees by adding ornaments while others settled down in the reading area to look at stories.

To begin the day, a few friends got out the sensory squares and made a design. They moved on their design in a specific way. They kept moving the squares to make a unique configuration.

Good Afternoon and Happy December!

Today we celebrated a friend’s second birthday! Our stackable numbered birthday cake was a big hit with our birthday girl and all of her friends.

We enjoyed working on stacking the different sized cake circles in their smallest to largest order and then we talked about how some of us were the number two on the cake circles and that very soon we would have two one year old’s in the classroom as well.

Good morning!

For K/PREK1 group, we read, ‘Ribbon Rescue’ written by Robert Munsch. We looked at the map of the world, identifying the things we saw such as rivers, oceans, countries, and cities. Things we didn’t see were trees, houses, and animals (just a few of the examples friends shared!).

Social Studies: K.3.2 Identify maps and globes as ways of representing Earth and understand differences between a map/globe.

In PREK2, children used a specific map of our indoor environment! Each child picked an object from the pile and had to identify which space in the environment that the item went in. For example, a friend picked a picture of a hammer and nails. They put the picture in the science area which is where our tools go!

DSCN6294DSCN6296DSCN6297

Friends patiently waited for a turn at the art table to make their own snowflake! Children used paint, brushes, popsicle sticks, glitter, glue, ribbon, and confetti. Once they made their snowflake, they added whatever materials they wanted to it.
