Good Afternoon!

Mack and Evie created four word families for their kindergarten sign in. They worked with the words ball, mail, tin, and fan. For each word, they had to come up with two rhyming words. They wrote the words down and then we talked about the letters that were present in all three words, making the three words a ‘word family’.

K.RF.3.5: Add, delete, or substitute sounds to change words.

They used their understanding of ‘word families’ in K/PREK1 group as they helped their younger peers create word families. Friends were quick to shout out a word that rhymed! Once we had our two rhyming words, we underlined the letters that were the same in each word. Children quickly noticed that the endings of each group were the same.

Good Afternoon!

We finished reading, ‘Freckle Juice’ today in K/PREK1 group! Afterwards, we started talking about numbers and how they are in a specific order. We looked at the five numbers on the chalkboard, identified them, and then worked together to fill in the blank spaces. We wrote the number that comes before and after each number that we said aloud.

K.NS.3: Find the number that is one more than or one less than any whole number up to 20.

Mack and Daniel explored the light table. Mack took the initiative to get out the colored shapes. He also got out a game board and made up his own game! Mack shared direct and specific instructions when Daniel sat down to play with him.

One of our favorite table top games is a wooden activity that has ramps, balls, and various materials. It is completely open ended and children can explore the activity how they wish.

This morning, friends used this game in a variety of ways such as building vertically to practice balancing while others used the materials to work on one to one correspondence, matching up one ball to one cylinder.

It was quite the active morning outside! There was a lot of running, climbing, and jumping!

We have several spaces in the outdoor and indoor environment that require a little more focus out of our children to make sure their body is safe. What’s a phrase adults use when cautioning children to pay attention to where their body is? “Be careful!”—I often say this a lot and have tried to cut it out of my vocabulary, trying to be more direct and truthful, using statements that may help a child consider what they’re about to attempt.

Here’s a situation that Teacher Tom went through and thought I’d shared his thoughts!

Good Afternoon.

This morning we had a dance party to the song “Let it Go” requested by one of our two year old’s. Anna and Elsa are very popular these days with our older girls. Our little ones even enjoy  the music. Smile

We then had a block party while singing, Row Row your Boat! Friends wiggled their bodies into the colorful blocks as if they were sitting in a boat and rowed their arms. Arthur and Emma joined in as well.

We then engaged in a sensory activity. We got our hands and fingers full of soft, fluffy shaving cream. Leaves were added in from outdoors to make this activity more interesting. PB091421PB091423

Happy Monday!

**Reminder: we need updated shot records for your child by Monday, January 3rd. Thanks!

Mack and Evie were introduced to verbs today for their kindergarten sign in. They each had a word bank with several verbs. Their job was to place each verb into the correct sentence. They used context clues in the sentences to determine which word went into each sentence.

K.W.6.1b: Verbs–Writing sentences that include verbs.

IMG_2908IMG_2911

We continued working with verbs in K/PREK1 group. Children again used context clues to figure out which sentence the verb went into. When I read a sentence using the wrong verb, it elicited some laughter as the sentence definitely didn’t make sense! For example, ‘Cassie hikes at the art table’ when the sentence should read ‘Cassie draws at the art table’.

K.W.6.1b: Verbs–Writing sentences that include verbs.

In PREK2, children stacked Legos while working with one to one correspondence. Each child had a few numbers that were given to them and they had to create Lego towers with the exact numbers that were in front of them.

We are ecstatic about the weather that’s on tap the next few days! It felt nice to get outside and have the sun shining without the need for hats and gloves! Smile

Happy Friday!

Evie and Mack chose one word (every word was a noun!) from a word bank containing six words. Once they chose their word, they were asked to write a sentence using that word. They said their sentence aloud and then together, we wrote the sentence out in their sign in binder.

K.W.6.1a: Nouns/Pronouns- Writing sentences that include singular and/or plural nouns (e.g., dog/dogs, cat/cats).

In K/PREK1 group, we started reading, ‘Freckle Juice’ which was inspired by our art project from earlier today AND the blue splattered paint on our faces! In the story, a student gives another student a recipe for freckle juice. It is quite comical. We’ll go onto chapter 2 Monday!

In PREK2, children went through the alphabet and talked about alphabetical order. Afterwards, they went through the alphabet again, having to identify missing letters and finding them on the floor!

DSCN1104DSCN1109

We continued working on our canvases. Children had the choice to come partake in one last step before we hang our canvases up. Miss Annastecia demonstrated a way to add splattered paint to the canvas. Using a wooden cylinder, children lightly tapped on the cylinder with their paint brush, forcing the paint off of the brush and onto the canvas. It MAY have gotten on other things too..like the floor and our face Smile.

DSCN1065DSCN1076DSCN1081

We definitely had to bundle up as we headed outside. One of the things we’ve been working on this week is self help skills when it comes to getting clothes on. Children are working on putting on hats, shoes/boots, gloves, and coats!

Lunch– Ham on whole wheat tortilla, fresh oranges/apples, and fresh carrots/cucumber.

Good Afternoon.

This morning we happily engaged in utilizing the textured stepping circles. We can talk about how they feel on on feet and we can also talk about their colors.

Yesterday we carved our classroom pumpkin.. Today, we glued our dried seeds onto a piece of colored construction paper. Some friends didn’t like the sticky feel of the glue on their fingers/hands. While other friends didn’t seem to mind all that much. However,it was an enjoyable experience for us all. Smile

Good Afternoon!

We want to say a BIG happy birthday to Imogen! She turned three years old today! We are so glad we were able to celebrate your birthday with you.

DSCN0941DSCN0938

In K/PREK1 group, we read, ‘Be Glad Your Nose Is On Your Face’ which is a collection of poetry! Each group member got to pick out one poem. Before we started reading, Mack asked, “Who wrote this?!”. We talked about the author and where one may find this book in the library. Evie said, “It’d be in the P section because the last name starts with P!”

K.1.19: Learn and apply knowledge of alphabetical order (first letter) when using a classroom or school library/media center. (2006 standard)

The chilly weather this morning didn’t stop us from having fun! Thankfully the sun made an appearance which we always love.
