Good Afternoon.

A friend asked for the swing today. The swing is a great place to have fun, relax and enjoy a light breeze as we swing back and forth. There are times the swing decides to go its own way and spin in circles. Friends love when that happens. Smile

Paige enjoyed engaging with Bekah with the circle stackers. While stacking them, Miss Bekah was also working with Paige with the colors of the circles that were being stacked.

During outdoor play a preschool friend was playing with a ball and Miss Kim thought it would be a great idea to play “basketball,”  so she got a tomato cage so friends could throw their ball into the “hoop.” Genius!!

Mack and Evie used alligator mouths to complete problems using the terms ‘greater than’, ‘less than’, and ‘equal to’. I use alligator mouths as an analogy because its a simple concept that children come to understand: an alligator would much rather have ten pieces of cake than five pieces of cake (meaning that the mouth is open to the 10).

We extended this activity into K/PREK1 group as each member got to choose two numbers. We used the alligator mouths to see which way the sign would be pointing. We came to the last problem where we realized that the two numbers were the same, which required an equal sign!

K.NS.7: Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

The rest of our day revolved on engaging indoor activities and absolutely gorgeous weather. We love when we get to explore our outdoor environment.

Happy Monday!

One of our FAB’s for the upcoming week is identifying important elements of text: one of our favorites! We are always discussing characters that we identify with or events within books that catch our attention.

We read, ‘Ladybug Girl and the Rescue Dogs’ in K/PREK1 group. We talked about the characters, setting, and three things that happened in the story. I asked, “What’s something that happened at the beginning/middle/end of the story?” Children were able to pick out events fairly easily and shared them right away!

K.RL.2.3: Identify important elements of the text (e.g. characters, settings, or events).

In PREK2, they read, ‘There’s Something In My Attic’. Today, they focused on one aspect of the text: characters!

Good Afternoon. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

This morning friends got right into their play after breakfast! A friend asked for the permanence boxes. This is an activity that enhances our hand-eye coordination skills. We place the small balls and coins into their slots so we can see where they end up. We love it when the balls roll back to us. Smile

Another friend used her gross motor climbing skills to climb up the ladder and look out of the window.

We then headed into the kitchen area to utilize our fine motor skills. We manipulated with the pegs and their boards. This activity also allows us to use our color recognition and our hand-eye coordination skills. Everyone enjoyed this activity.

Today we welcomed an IUSB Early Childhood student to observe our classroom for the next ten weeks as part of receiving her degree. Anna really did well with our littles and they really enjoyed her and her enthusiasm with them. She will be visiting the classroom on Friday’s from 8:15 am to 10:15 am. We are excited to have her!

Good Afternoon!

We hit the fourth and final genre during K/PREK1 group today: poetry!

Each member got to choose one poem from the book. We noticed quickly that the poems use a lot of rhyming words! A few children even helped me fill in the blank of a poem with the correct rhyming word.

Before friends rolled up their mats to journal, they had to answer a question specific to them. I gave each child three words that were similar and they had to come up with a fourth word that fit that category. For example, I gave Mack the words pig, horse, and chicken. He said “Those are farm animals! My word is cow!”

K.DA.1: Identify, sort, and classify objects by size, number, and other attributes. Identify objects that do not belong to a particular group and explain the reasoning used.

K.RL.3.1: Recognize familiar narrative text genres (e.g. fiction, nonfiction, fairy-tales, poems).

DSCN3424

In PREK2, children had to observe four square picture tiles. They had to choose which square tile didn’t match the rest.

DSCN3432DSCN3431DSCN3436

Evie and a few older friends used the sunflower seeds that we removed from the sunflower head yesterday to make animal feeders for outside! Friends used a toilet paper roll, peanut butter, butter knife, and sunflower seeds to make the feeder.

We’re anxious to see what animals visit our feeder!

Good Afternoon.

This morning we listened to several songs of all different kinds. We listened to kids music on Pandora, we listened to Fall/Halloween songs and we also listened too and acted out the body movements to, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We sure do love our Dance parties. Smile

While some of our friends decided to keep dancing others of us went into the kitchen area to engage in the moon sand. We scooped, poured and simply just let our hands feel the silky soft texture of the sand.
