Good Afternoon!

Millie turned 3 years old today! We are so happy we were able to go outside this morning and enjoy the beautiful sun. One of Millie’s older peers even made her a special birthday chair in the sandbox! We hope you had a fantastic birthday, Millie!

For kindergarten sign in, children had to fill in the missing space with the correct number. We skip counted and used the colored counters to help us. One of the problems we had to complete was: 2, 4, 6, 8, _____. We talked about the pattern in each problem (add 2, add 10, etc.).

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

We headed outside for a while this morning and soaked up the warm sunshine! Most of the snow has melted but friends are sure able to find the snow hidden in corners throughout the yard! Children were finally able to explore in the sandbox today which made us all happy!

We’re hoping that we’ll be able to get bikes out at some point next week!

Good Afternoon.

This morning a friend thought the puff balls and wire whisk looked enticing, so he pulled it out. His friends also thought it looked enticing so they joined in the fun. This activity can enhance a child’s fine motor, sensory and hand-eye coordination skills along with color recognition.

Good Afternoon!

Today, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday in K group  by reading, ‘Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose’. It’s one of our favorites! After the story was done, we filled out a chart and made a tally mark for everyone’s favorite Dr. Seuss book. Friends could choose from Thidwick the Big Hearted Moose, The Foot Book, Fox On Socks, The Cat In The Hat, The Grinch, or another book. Each friend shared their favorite. We graphed the results which ultimately let us know that Thidwick was the majority favorite!

K.W.5: With support, build understanding of a topic using various sources. (Identify relevant pictures, charts, grade- appropriate texts, personal experiences, or people as sources).

DSCN7121

For kindergarten sign in, children completed the chart by filling in the number of items that were identified. Friends looked and searched for the following answers: how many doors in WF, how many windows in WF, how many exit signs, and how many chairs!

DSCN7060DSCN7063

In PREK2, children chatted about the question: “Would you eat green eggs and ham?”

As they talked about it, Miss Kim graphed their responses by creating a pie chart!

Friends scattered throughout the environment after breakfast, quickly becoming engaged in various activities. Millie and Maggie snuggled up together in a chair, reading stories. James and an older peer perfected their puppet show before offering their friends a chance to watch it!

The art easel and sensory bin were used consistently right up until lunch time.

Happy Monday and Happy March!

For K group, we read, ‘The Grouchy Ladybug’ which is one of our favorites! We love the attitude of the grouchy ladybug and the journey she takes throughout the story.

Once we were done reading the story, we looked at the five patterns on the chalkboard. Each friend was assigned one pattern. One at a time, friends came up to the chalkboard and looked through my hand to find the piece of paper that would complete their pattern!

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

DSCN7021DSCN7022

During sign in this morning, children worked with fruit to not only complete patterns but create their own! Each friend was given three fruit patterns and they had to finish the pattern. Once they finished their three patterns, they drew their own fruit pattern on their piece of paper.

K.CA.5: Create, extend, and give an appropriate rule for simple repeating and growing patterns with numbers and shapes.

In PREK2, children discussed their favorite pizza toppings and graphed the results! Our conclusion: we just need cheese to make us happy!

DSCN7018

An art activity was made available at the art table this morning. There were several steps to this project. First, children used various sponges to paint their piece of paper. They used white, green, and blue paint. The blue represented the sky and the green represented the grass. Once friends were done painting, they grabbed a few sticks to place on their paper which represented trees! Last, they added pieces of tissue paper which represented leaves!

Friends worked for quite a long time on their creation so not everyone was able to have an opportunity this morning so this activity was also offered this afternoon!

Happy Friday!

Sophia has been apart of the Wee Friends family for several years and tomorrow, she’ll celebrate her sixth birthday! We are so happy we were able to celebrate with her today!

In K group, we went over a chart that we had made for our sign in activity. We talked about the scale that we used and identified which item weighed the most!

K.M.1: Make direction comparisons of the length, capacity, weight, and temperature of objects, and recognize which object is shorter, longer, taller, lighter, heavier, warmer, cooler, or holds more.

DSCN9022DSCN6834

As we were weighing our objects this morning, a few friends shared that they have a scale like that at home. Each friend was able to weigh two items and after weighing the first item, they made a prediction about which item weighs more.

DSCN6836DSCN6833DSCN6843

In PREK2, children were given different measuring cups. They each had the chance to share which measuring cup they thought would hold the most liquid!

Good Afternoon. I hope everyone has had a great week.

As we are entering the month of March we painted shamrocks today to decorate the classroom. We had a wonderful time exploring with the green paint. Some of us used paint brushes while others thought their hands would be better method. Smile Either way, we had a wonderful time!
