Happy Friday! I hope you have all had a great week.

The neighbors were getting a delivery and friends happened to see the large Lowe’s truck just outside our classroom. We were very happy to watch them unload the appliance out of the back of the truck. We can never see too many large trucks!!

We then got a little silly with our play. A friend started this fun trend by placing our small dramatic play/housekeeping bowl on top of his head and then many more friends started doing it. Smile

Good Afternoon!

In K group, our activity started with each friend choosing a laminated piece of paper that had four various numbers on it, ranging from 1-20.. Each friend took a turn identifying the numbers that were on their sheet. Once everyone identified their numbers, each group member closed their eyes and placed their index finger on their board. They opened their eyes and looked to see what number they had chose. Friends grabbed the colored counters and counted out the correct number of counters and placed them in the number circle.

K.NS.4: Perform one-on-one correspondence tasks.

K.NS.5: Count up to 20 objects arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle. Count up to 10 objects in a scattered configuration.

In PREK2, children played alphabet Go Fish! Throughout the game, they had conversations about the difference between uppercase and lowercase letters.

We’ve been focused on syllables this week during our K focused groups and during sign-in, friends sorted several words based on the number of syllables. There were three groups: 1 syllable, 2 syllables, and 3 syllables. We read the words together and friends used mostly the clapping method to figure out how many syllables were in each word. There were a few times were friends corrected themselves which is fantastic!

K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.

The rest of our morning offered up endless building experiences and playdoh creations.

Hello All.

Lately many of us have been interested in matching. Whether it is matching the color of our  shirts, matching our socks, or matching our colors with various toys in the classroom,  we have all enjoyed this fun way of learning and understanding our colors.

Our magnatiles have been a HUGE part of us matching with one another. We enjoy placing the colorful tiles up tp our faces and have a teacher sing random color songs to us. Other friends will then most always go find that same color tile and mimic the behavior so we can match.

Our cocoon swing was a big hit today as well. This cozy swing allows us to just take a break from all of our playing, or calm our bodies if needed. We LOVE it! Smile Us teachers wish they would make one just our size because it looks so cozy.

Good Afternoon!

A few of our kindergartners have shown an interest in eels lately. They have conversations about them, complete eel focused journals, and use a variety of art materials to create their own eels!

So today, a few kindergarteners gathered at the art table to start an art project that revolved around eels. Miss Annastecia got out several science books and introduced what an ‘index’ is. Friends flipped to the back of the book to the index and tried to find what pages ‘eels’ could be found. They really understood this concept and were ecstatic when they found ‘eel’ in the index!

Check back in with us throughout the week to see the progress that we’ve made!

We spent some time outside this morning and it was fantastic to be able to get some fresh air! A few of our friends discovered patches of ice. They used it as their personal ice rink. A few others pretended the snow was food. They made all sorts of goodies with it!

Happy Wednesday! Smile

Today we were so very excited to be painting because we were given very special stampers and animal sponges to paint with.

We used a doggie, bunny, cow and drum roll please….. a DINOSAUR sponge as well as a paw print stamper. We were all so excited and happy to be using these tools to paint our creations with.

Good Afternoon!

In K group, we read, ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ which lead into our group activity. We took the names of all of the crayons in the books and sorted them by the number of syllables in each word. By far, the 1 syllable group had the most colors! As I held each paper out, children worked on reading the color instead of me telling what what it was. They were able to use their prior knowledge of letter sounds to figure out what the color was!

K.RF.3.2: Orally segment words into syllables.

DSCN8648

During kindergarten sign in, children used the letter box to match the lowercase letters to their uppercase counterpart. As they placed the popsicle stick into the box, they said aloud what letter it was.

K.RF.2.4: Identify and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

DSCN8602DSCN8593

In PREK2 group, friends went fishin’ for some letters! Each friend got to use a set of tongs to search in a bin for different letters. When they pulled out a letter, they identified the letter before looking for a new one!

DSCN8634DSCN8637DSCN8640

Our preschool aged friends also partook in their sign in this morning that required them to identify the letter B. When friends found the letter B, they signed their name under that group.

DSCN8573DSCN8574

The rest of our day had a little of this and a little of that—tons of building, art area creations, and snuggles with peers and teachers while reading our favorite stories.

Happy Monday!

In K group, we read ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’. We focused on syllables as we read aloud six of the seven dwarfs and placed them in the appropriate syllable category. We read aloud six of the seven dwarf names and friends worked together to figure out the missing dwarfs name which happened to be the only one syllable name!

In PREK2, children worked on matching a group of items to the correct number. Each group member counted items on their own paper and after they were done counting, they connected it to the corresponding number!

The rest of our day was full of stories, puppet play, and exploring the art table. It was a day full of dialogue between peers, arguments and frustration, and ultimately, cooperation and understanding.

A short but good Teacher Tom blog from the other day caught my eye: ‘I Was a Different Person Then’. Isn’t that the truth for all of us! This quote resonated with me and I wanted to share it:

“After all, it’s our business, this process of human change, which is another way of saying growth or learning. We aren’t carpenters building children. We don’t fill them like one would empty vessels. We’re more like gardeners tending plants: we keep them safe, make sure they get food and water, pull the weeds, add a bit of fertilizer every now and then, and otherwise watch them change day after day after day. When things go awry, we make a study, we check with colleagues and experts, we strive to determine exactly who they are right now and what they need, then we make alterations to the child’s environment, but whatever happens, we don’t change the child any more than we educate them: they ultimately must change themselves.”

Good Afternoon and i hope you enjoyed your weekend.

This morning a friend asked for “marching” and teachers knew exactly what that meant. He wanted the Dinosaurs Go Marching, a very fun interactive song that we ALL love!

We march, nibble on our lunch and sleep during our marching song. It’s our absolute FAVORITE song these days!

Then we went over with Miss Bekah and engaged with our play dino’s and reenacted what we had just done while our bodies while marching.

Happy Friday!

A glimpse of how we wrapped up our week:

Star We finally welcomed back every single classmate from our winter vacation. How good it feels to all be back together!

Star Demons were created at the art table and castles were built with trio blocks. Our imaginations were in super high gear!

Star Friends frequented the island for fresh broccoli and fresh cucumber while sipping on vacation water (aka lemon water). It is absolutely amazing how popular vegetables are here: Wee Sprouts for the win!

Star Puzzles upon puzzles were completed ranging from foam puzzles to 48 piece puzzles. We are definitely a puzzle loving group!

…and as we dispersed into various activities this afternoon, we let the sun shine in through the windows—something we have not seen much of this week! What a great end to our week back from winter vacation.
