Good Afternoon!

Today is David’s last day! From baby to six year old—in what seems like such a short amount of time! We can’t wait to hear how your new school goes! Thank you for all of the memories over the last six years! Smile

Yesterday, in K/PREK1, we read ‘The Skin You Live In’ which dives into the topic of skin color. To start, we put all of our arms into the center of the group and talked about how our skin looks similar but pointed out the differences such as freckles and scars.

Today, we read ‘It’s Okay to Be Different’ by Todd Parr. We talked about things that make us different which sparked a great conversation!

Social Studies: K.3.6 Identify and compare similarities and differences in families, classmates, neighbors and neighborhoods, and ethnic and cultural groups.

In PREK2, children talked about their family dynamic and how many people are in their family. After their discussion, they signed their name under the following family options:

Mom, Dad, Brother; Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother; and Mom, Dad, Sister

We’re in the process of an art project that focuses on all 16 of our friends and the physical characteristics we all possess! We’re anxious to share the finished product when we’re done!

Good Afternoon.

Today we welcomed back one of families.  Everyone was happy to see their long lost friends back at school. Smile

We happily engaged in a fun sensory activity. Playdoh is always a success. We use various “tools” to add into our play. Scissors, rollers, hammers, and even golf tee’s. We had a fabulous time.

Good Afternoon!

This morning we engaged in a color recognition, fine motor and hand-eye coordination activity with our pegs and peg boards.  We placed a peg in the holes of our board and then began stacking them together to make peg towers on them.

Happy Monday!

SO much excitement today!

First, we welcomed a new friend into our classroom today! James is two and a half years old and had such a great day exploring the environment. We are so thankful to have him and his family here!

Each week, we’ll have a specific focus: FAB’s (Framework of Academic Balance) that we’ll work into our day in various ways.

This week’s FAB is:

Social Studies: K.3.6 Identify and compare similarities and differences in families, classmates, neighbors and neighborhoods, and ethnic and cultural groups.

In K/PREK1 group, we read ‘The Family Book’ which shares the ways a family can look and how families are different. We talked about similarities and differences in our families, specifically when it comes to siblings! We found out that everyone in group has at least one sibling!

DSCN8772DSCN8783DSCN8784

In PREK2 group, children discussed their eye color and charted it by writing their name under their eye color!

Happy Friday!

Several friends asked to paint this morning so Miss Annastecia set up a simple yet extremely interesting art activity. Children used a few different colors of paint and mixed them on a piece of cardboard. Kids kept saying, “Oh! My yellow and blue made green!”—they were so interested in the colors they were making on their cardboard! Smile

We ended our week by using our imagination at the art table, drawing detailed pictures and diving into the LEGO bin where friends naturally come together to work towards an end result.

Good Afternoon and Happy Friday! I hope you all have a had a wonderful week. Smile

Friends loved listening to stories today!

Ellie and Nesta chose books for me to read today and we happily and patiently took turns listening to each others chosen books.

Early literacy is a very important and integral part of our day in the Infant/Toddler classroom.

Reading to our friends daily, starting in infancy can help with the development of language and literacy skills. Reading stimulates the part of the brain that allows children to understand the meaning of language and build on social skills.

The sandbox is a  happy and very used space in our outdoor environment.

Friends can feel the sand in their hands, they can build on their hand-eye coordination skills by scooping up the sand then dumping it into a pail or the other various items available and of course… they can get so dirty! Which teachers seem to think that’s the best part for our friend’s. We LOVE to get dirty!!!

Good Afternoon!

There was so much going on this morning! Children were diving into activities left and right.

To start their morning, Evie and Daniel got out the alphabet floor puzzle. They worked together and were able to complete it! When it came to finding what letter came next, they sang the alphabet up until the missing letter—what teamwork!

DSCN8480DSCN8493

There were several building activities going on throughout the morning. Jack, Mack, and Grady worked together to build a ‘crystal tower’. Jack shared, “If we had built this with LEGOS, we would have used a LOT more LEGOS than magnatiles.” We talked about what building material is easiest to build with!

DSCN8494DSCN8490DSCN8499

Speaking of LEGOS! The conversation we had lead friends to get out the LEGOS at the circle table! Daniel and Jack chatted prior to building to come to an agreement on what they’d like to build together.

DSCN8530DSCN8529

At the art table, children used a different medium: chalkboard and chalk! Friends drew a variety of things: castles and dinosaurs seemed to take up the chalkboards mostly! They used a couple different shapes such as triangles and squares within their drawing.
