Good Afternoon.

Friends have been really interested in our letters that are hanging on the wall by the habi-trail slide.

We are often asked what letter a friends names in the classroom start with, and then we will point to that letter on the wall and sound it out.

Today, Ellie wanted pointed to the Z and said, “this is for Xylophone!” Miss Rebekah had a small conversation about how that Xylophone sounds like a Z but it is actually an X and then showed her where the X was on the wall.

Good Afternoon!

Here’s a sneak peak into our day!

Enjoy this short Teacher Tom blog post that explains why play is crucial for children and the connection it creates later on in life.

“This is why the human animal must play, not just so that the formulas will make sense when we’re older, but so the world will make sense. The children have no idea they are learning physics any more than they know they are learning to be self-motivated learners, practicing being sociable, and acquiring the skills and habits necessary to work well with others.”

Good Afternoon.

Today Caroline and Ellie happily engaged in the Duplo blocks and the little Duplo people.

They made all kinds of neat structures and were both pretty proud of themselves.

This activity helps enhance a child’s fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills as well as building on their color and shape recognition. It also helps with building their self-esteem, as they feel proud of themselves for building the items to where their imaginations have taken them.

Good Afternoon.

This morning we engaged in a fun sensory and fine motor activity that we all enjoyed so much. We started off by first coloring with markers on a piece of paper and then dipping a paintbrush into some water and painted our marker drawings. Our creations turned out beautifully.

“The child has a different relation to his environment from ours..the child absorbs it. The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul. He incarnates in himself all in the world about him that his eyes see and his ears hear.”

Happy Monday!

This morning Caroline and Ellie were pretending to be a doctor and a patient. Caroline was the doctor and pretended to listen to Ellie’s ears, check her back, her throat, and her belly. She even checked her knee reflexes as she pretended to “thump” her knee. Smile

Imaginative play tends to begin around the age of 18 to 24 months. Children will begin to act out everyday actions they see their parents and others do.
