Good Afternoon!

This simple and short blog condensed such a huge topic into a few paragraphs. The concept of learning is intense and people have varying ideas on how children should be ‘taught’. Teacher Tom used these words to describe his view:

“Learning is the most natural thing in the world. It’s an irrepressible part of being alive. From the moment we come into the world, and even before, the human animal takes in sensations and converts them into thoughts, ideas, theories, and understanding.”

“And when their irrepressible urge to become honestly educated emerges, we beat it back, telling them to sit down, to be quiet, and to focus on material that is as meaningless to the child as motes.”

“Our responsibility is to provide children food, clothing, shelter, and love, then to trust children to direct their own learning. This is the most natural thing in the world.”

We had our fair share of fine motor activities that consumed our morning with a little sprinkle of a movement and dance time during our Facebook Live session!

As the rain fell outside all morning, children became intensely involved in their activities with their peers. It was quite the calm morning Red heart.

Hello All and Good Afternoon.

The Dramatic Play area was a very popular space today.

Miss Caroline cooked many various foods for her friends and teachers to enjoy, meanwhile Ellie and Rowan changed their babies diapers and fed them from a bottle.

Good Afternoon!

As children came into the environment this morning, they asked for different games and manipulatives such as puzzles, ka-noodle, and dominos. Usually when one friend sits down to work on an activity like this, other friends come and join!

Later on in the morning, we hopped onto our Facebook live session where Miss Annastecia read a book about feelings and emotions before leading several children in a yoga session.

The book revolved around colors and associating them with feelings. Evie shared, “I feel like the color blue is a sad color.”

Once our yoga session was done, we decided to go outside and enjoy the weather! Between the water table, our three umbrellas, and a squirt bottle that a teacher had, we stayed relatively cool (even though many of us were super sweaty!).

Friends were super happy to be able to experience the water table again and worked very well together to make sure that everyone got a turn.

We spent our Friday playing a variety of card games including Uno and Go Fish as well as searching for bugs outside which has been our favorite! Children can’t wait to get outside and explore the outdoor environment. Looks like next week is going to be a wet one so we took advantage of the weather today!

I found this short article about board games and the benefits of them. Spending more time at home, I even got into board games and puzzles! There are so many more benefits to board games than one would think Smile.

Good Afternoon!

Everyday during K/PREK1 group, we complete our calendar activity before journaling. We identify the month, day, and year before crossing off the current day. One of our favorite things to do is count how many days until the weekend or a birthday that may be coming up.

Today, we created our own May calendar and filled in some things that were missing such as the month, year, and the days of the week.

We also finished up our chapter book, ‘Cam Jansen and the Chocolate Fudge Mystery’. Each day we read two chapters and before we would start reading, we’d go over what happened in the story the day prior.

Social Studies: K.1.5 Explain that calendars are used to represent days of the week and months of the year.

I found this article today that describes an authentic, meaningful learning experience that looked different for each child. What one child sees may be completely different than what another child sees.

“Now it was a game. Several kids followed suit, some struggling with the names of the three-dimensional shapes. Then Elana took her place, feeling silly, “Wood, basket, lego, block, box, block, ring.”
