Good Afternoon!

We’ve been talking about places in our community this week in K/PREK1.  We are quite familiar with Miss Charlotte’s farm (we’re missing it a lot!) so we combined the FAB for the week and what we’re reading in Charlotte’s Web. We discussed farms in general: what they look like, smell like, etc. as well as what they contribute to the community as a whole.  Grady said, “Red!”. I asked further what he meant by red and he responded, “Red! All barns are red. I haven’t seen one that isn’t!”.

Friends also worked together to pick a character that we’ve read about: Fern! Children identified a few characteristics about Fern and we wrote them down. We’ll chose another character tomorrow and keep adding to the list when we learn new things about each character.

Several friends were elated to find out it was music morning on our Facebook Live! Children used colorful scarves as they danced and twirled around. Evie let Miss Annastecia know that, “I’m really really good at spinning.”

Good Afternoon!

We continued reading ‘Charlotte’s Web’ in K/PREK1. Before we started in on chapter 2, we recapped what happened in chapter 1 and Grady was quick to ask, “It’s called CHARLOTTE’S Web. We haven’t met Charlotte yet!”. Penny told him that we’d be meeting Charlotte shortly! The author of Charlotte’s Web uses very descriptive language and friends point out how specific events in the story make them feel.

Afterwards, we looked at our list we made yesterday of the places in the classroom environment. We identified the places in our classroom by writing the names of the different areas.

Social Studies: K.3.3 Locate and describe places in the school and community.

In PREK2, children created a 3-D map where they added different locations within the community such as a baseball stadium, pool, and a park.

Miss Annastecia lead a yoga session after reading a book for our Facebook live session! Evie and Penny were great demonstrators and really took advantage of this quiet, intentional time.

This morning we were all excited to engage in coloring with crayons and markers. This is a  fine motor, color recognition and hand-eye coordination activity.

Welcome to June!

**We are planning a special art experience that requires each child to have a plain white shirt—we wanted to give each family enough time so we’re asking that each child have their shirt here by June 15. If you have any questions, please let us know!

In K/PREK1, we started a longer chapter book today: Charlotte’s Web! Penny, Grady, and David are ending their kindergarten year so we thought we’d focus on a few chapter books which requires more comprehension understanding (more words + less pictures). We’ve also been talking about how books can differ from movies and a few friends have seen the movie, ‘Charlotte’s Web’, so friends have already been sharing their understanding of the movie and specific events that they recall. Each day we’ll read one chapter and explore various activities throughout the story.

Our FAB this week is:

Social Studies: K.3.3 Locate and describe places in the school and community.

We made two webs that focus on each aspect of the FAB: places in our school and places in our community. When friends started sharing places in the community, I heard a lot of, “..we’ve been there!”. Personal experiences play a big role in children’s understanding and the things they share throughout the day.

DSCN3913DSCN3908DSCN3905DSCN3911

In PREK2, children took various pictures of items and placed it in the correct space in the classroom. For example, Mack placed the pancakes in the kitchen area since that’s where teachers make food!

DSCN3896DSCN3897DSCN3898

During our Facebook live session, a story was read before diving into a new art experience. Every child had the opportunity to explore the art experience. First, they wet their piece of paper with water. Then, they used cottons balls and different water colors to cover their paper. Since the paper was already wet, the water colors blended together. Our friends LOVED how the water colors worked together!

DSCN3855DSCN3848DSCN3844

Finally, we enjoyed time outside together. One friend found many, many worms and eventually had several friends helping him in his bug/worm finding journey!

Happy Friday!

In K/PREK1, we’ve been diving into maps and globes all week  and the differences between the two. Today, we created a web that identified the things we can see on maps and globes such as rivers, cities, and capitals.

We’ve also been reading chapter books for the last two weeks. Friends were quick to point out that there are less pictures but they really seem to like the story lines and character development in the chapter books we’ve read so far!

What a way to end the week—

Check. Us. Out.
