Good Afternoon!

We read a story in K/PREK1 titled, ‘Strictly No Elephants’. It centers around an elephant and his owner not being able to join a specific group. They encounter a skunk and his owner who ALSO weren’t allowed to join the same group. SO, they created their own group where everyone is welcome! We identified the problem in the story as well as the solution.

After we were done, I read four sentence strips that had four specific, important events from the story. Working together, children were able to correctly identify the order of events that occurred in the story.

K.1.4: Identify and order events that take place in a sequence.

Before doing our calendar activity, which is a daily occurrence, we worked as a team to find three specific times on the clock. We identified the two hands on the clock; hour and minute.

K.M.2: Understand concepts of time, including: morning, afternoon, evening, today, yesterday, tomorrow, day, week, month, and year. Understand that clocks and calendars are tools that measure time.

Members of PREK2 worked as a team to fill in the missing events that occurred in the story, ‘Up, Up, Down’. Once they filled in the missing parts of the story, Miss Kim read it back to them.

Jack explored the welcome activity this morning. He rolled two dice and counted the white dots on each dice. He used the tongs to move puff balls by the dice so that his puff balls matched the number that was on his dice.

Sophia and Emma used the puff balls in a different way. They discussed the puff balls using descriptive words such as big and small as well as talking about the differences in color.

Some friends love it. Some friends said, “No, thank you.”

The ‘guts’ of a pumpkin can be a very controversial activity. We heard the following:

“This feels so cool!”

“Ew! That’s disgusting!”

“I DON’T want to do that.”

That’s the beauty of it. Children who wanted to explore the guts of the pumpkin could stand there for as long as they wanted while friends who didn’t want to take part in the activity were free to do so!

Good Afternoon.

This morning we absolutely LOVED manipulating the gold tee’s and playdoh hammers into our big orange pumpkin. This activity enhances our fine motor and hand-eye coordination skills to a “Tee!” Smile Friends had a blast. We also talked about the color and shape of the pumpkin and if it was hard or soft.

Happy Monday, I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.

Miss Tami bought a big pumpkin for us to explore and do a fun activity with!

Today we just looked at it and touched it to see what it and its stem felt like. Soon, we will take golf tees and small playdoh hammer/mallets and pound the tee’s into the pumpkin. We LOVE to explore and manipulate new things!

We then went onto the sensory bin, a fine motor/sensory activity. While engaged in the sensory bin, we manipulated our hands and fingers by picking off the small kernels of corn on the Indian corn stalks. This can be a tricky task, but with hard work and determination we DID IT!!!

Happy Monday!

One of the longest standing traditions at Wee Friends takes place in the fall: hammering golf tees into a big pumpkin! Children always love this activity. Not only is it fun, but it requires hand and eye coordination along with motor control. The top of the golf tee isn’t that big so it takes concentration to hit the golf tee with a wooden hammer.

Choices are a main aspect of our day. Children know if they need some quiet time or down time, the reading area is a great place for that! Lately, friends have been taking the pillows and building a small fort where their body is enclosed as they read their favorite story.

We have several various activities that allow children to use their hands. One of our favorites recently is LEGO’s. Not only do LEGO’s require fine motor strength but it also requires concentration.

A group of friends collected loose materials throughout the yard and decided to build a campfire! Not only did they construct the campfire but they went around gathering sticks for their marshmallows!  We all love a good campfire story! Smile

MACK for Week 6: Children will learn to define friendship and to recognize the friendships they have with their peers.

One of the wonderful things about our classroom setup is most of these children have been together for years! Sometimes, it more like a sibling relationship. Children know each other so well: they know what makes them happy, frustrated, or sad.

Strengthening the friendships between children is one of our highest priorities as being able to sustain meaningful relationships in our lives is crucial!

Good Afternoon! I hope you have all had a great week.

“It’s okay to make mistakes. Mistakes help us grow!” ~Unknown

Boy oh Boy, did we have ALOT of fallen leaves in the outdoor play area today! So what better way to have some leaf fun then to get our small child size rakes and the roller buckets to rake them all up.

We raked up as many leaves as we could , then threw them into the roller buckets. We had a blast!! This fun activity can help enhance our hand-eye coordination and have a fun way to incorporate the use of our life skills.
